I think everyone who follows music closely knew that this was just a matter of time. I don't know how you help someone like her. Such a tremendous talent. Wasted. :(

Rest in peace, Amy.

So much talent and whenever I saw her on TV it was like watching a plane slowly spinning toward the ground.
RIP Amy.
But for the Grace of God....

hopefully people will remember the amazing talent - like the 2008 Grammys . . . be sure to watch until the end for her reaction to " and the winner is "

the piece talks about her live-from-London performance

It has been brought to my attention that among those who died at age 27 include; Amy Winehouse, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, and Jimi Hendrixs. This is weird that so much talent burned out so soon. Thank heavens Grace just turned 28.

All those musicians were abusing. As far as I know, this band is clean. Grace doesn't smoke, and I don't see the band drinking often. This is wholesome rock and roll for the whole family! Grace says a woman can front a rock band in her 40s, so I'm hoping to see her do that one day!

I loved her music. Sad. It was a train wreck waiting to happen. She joins, Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain, and absolutely can't forget about McKernan and Wilson. The 27 Club. Sucks.

Thank heavens Grace just turned 28.

I'm not too worried about Grace. I think she's too smart to make the big mistakes. She knows about risks and consequences. I wouldn't be surprised if she smokes a little weed now and then, but that never killed anybody. ;) Willie Nelson may outlive us all.

Some people just appear to be born with a natural predisposition to addiction. There is definitely something different about those people, and it always shows itself by age 25 or earlier. They can't handle moderation. Obviously, Amy had the money and connections to get any kind of help that she needed. It didn't happen. Whatever that predisposition is, she had a bad case of it.

As far as I know, this band is clean.

More importantly, they all appear to be nice enough people that they would never let one of their own go off the rails and not do anything about it. When your friend wants to have a little fun that isn't 100% accepted mainstream, that's one thing, but when they start hurting themselves and/or risking horrible consequences, that's something completely different. A real friend has to do something at that point.

Remember the old stories about Motley Crue? Those guys weren't friends to each other. They were competing to see who could do the most bad-ass shit. That's the kind of people you have to avoid like the plague.

Grace says a woman can front a rock band in her 40s

Hell, Ann Wilson has proven it can be done at least through age 60, so that takes GPN up to the year 2043. :D Can we pre-order those tickets yet?

Good points, Kare_J, Tina Turner could rock well into her fifties, and even if you do a lot not so healthy, look at the Stones.

.
A couple of good pieces on Amy . . . if only have time to read one I'd suggest Pitchfork

Pitchfork (http://pitchfork.com/features/articles/8011-appreciation-amy-winehouse/) : Appreciation: Amy Winehouse
[ if I ever knew, I had forgotten . . the backing band on Back to Black was the Dap-Kings ]

Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/amy-winehouses-death-a-troubled-star-gone-too-soon-20110724?page=1) : A Troubled Star Gone Too Soon : At only 27, Winehouse was highly influential in the music world - but was never able to conquer her demons

Amy would have been 28 years old today.

Her final video, the eagerly awaited duet with Tony Bennett, made its debut on VH1 this morning. And MTV is running all of her videos this morning, back to back.

Fortunately, Amy's music will always be with us, and is already inspiring other young artists to explore that classic retro jazz sound that she brought back with such great style and attitude.
