gracepotter (http://twitter.com/gracepotter/status/18377090276) : Oh the humanity! A boat cruise with the 3 un-sick Nocturnals and the water looks choppy. But know what? We're still gonna rock the boat!
.

trying not to type something Meatloafy like 3 out of 5 ain't bad . . . : fail :

Just realized this isn't even on the GPN Shows page _ looks like you're getting a special night, John . . enjoy !

Benny and Cat were no shows ( 24 hr virus which has been making the rounds on the bus). so we had ourselves a little Nocturnal Evening with Grace , Matt, and Evil Scott. Was joined by Tina and Van at this sold out boat ride. I even heard some Blues and Lasers over the P.A. before the show .

Just watched TH1's youtube video on FB - SMOKIN' I assume he'll bring it over here along with his wonderful commentary? Hoping so.

2:22 was a ridiculously smoking 7:48 minutes with the 3 healthy Noc's wailing and giving it their all - the rest of the show just must have been pure nocturnal madness if this taste was any indication.

In TH1's words: One of the shows those that were there will be talking about years from now....

Waiting for you to come talk to us here sir!!!

In case TH1 is busy editing more great vids for us and can't post this one here right away. I know, I'm being very presumptious. Here's the vid so you don't have to go running over to youtube to find it!! ; ^ 0

Thanks John - what a great time you all must have had. Would have loved to have heard the trio on those two acoustic numbers especially. Haven't heard "Ain't No Time" in quite some time and miss that one!

I like brick. Ergo, I like Annapolis. A beautiful launch pad for a messy, sweaty, singin', suds-slurpin', swaying, session at sea.

The Harbor Queen ferries touri in its work-a-day life, but tonight it was transformed into that big basement your friend had, whose parents let him set up equipment and rattle the neighbors windows.

Oh, and it was really cool to get a single set of lights, complete with the color gels, to put a little light on the band instead of the overhead flourescents. And if the room was big enough, a PA, not just amps!

And to make it just a bit more interesting, the band is broken, but not beaten. Two folks, Scott and Grace, have already been knocked to the mat, but have struggled to their feet before the ref can count to 10. Add in Matty (who knew he was the picture of health and clean livin'?) and well, with this Nocturnocore, you got enough experience, guile, street smarts and toughness to fight another day, just long enough till they can get rejoined by reinforcements to wage all out battle for the attention of music lovers everywhere. Any disappointment anyone had was gone as soon as Grace took the stage and said "We been sick, you don't want to know".

Me, I was excited to see this configuration. It has only happened once before, a full show with just the three. The Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, Ma. Bassist Bryan Dondero had hurt his back and did not make the trip from Vermont. And I was there. And when Scott looked off the boat and saw me dockside laughed, pointed at me, and mouthed "I knew it". Post show he said "Van, you are always there when the weird stuff happens" And I came because it was the first booze cruise they had ever done. So i thought. Grace said they had done one before but no one was drinkin' any booze at that one, so it didn't count.

After a long delay, the Harbor Queen pulled out into, well, the river! Fooled ya. The front of the boat has become the backstage:

And the Nocturnocure has huddled there reviewing set lists, chords, and arrangements. And after we get upriver and darkness has fallen, the Nocturnocore take the stage....and by stage, I mean 10" high perhaps 5 feet by 12 feet. enough for Matt and Scott, the B-3 is on the floor.

Highlights Tonight:

Any disappointments anyone has are immediately dispelled by Grace's comments that they have spent the last year, with the new configuration, focused on the new album and they were happy to be rolling some of the old songs back out. They didn't want any of the old songs to be "Left Behind" Hey, that would have been a good one, but not tonight. And I remember the Boston HOB show when they pulled back out "Here's to The Meantime"...the whoops and cheers of the old faithful down front had brought a huge grin to her face. And they open with...

"Meantime" : Nice country open: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vKbwq0jW9U

"Tiny Light" scott walks in front of the stage over to to the B-3, and puts one foot up on it to jam with Grace

"Toothbrush and My Table": Another old staple

Matt vamping on the drums, while Grace tunes, a perfect beat for "We're Not Gonna Take it" which someone starts singing. Whole crowd joins in, Nocturnocore grins huge, they join in for a second round before Grace counts off 1-2 and it seams perfectly into..

"One Short Night": !!!

"2:22" What a bombshell tonight, and Grace does a little pole dance slide... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXQliDEEnF4

"Medicine" Grace is in full howl, closing the song, as boat is being tied up. Wake up all the folks sleeping on their boats. Excuse me, their yachts.

And with that the show has ended, the cruise has as well, the band hangs for a few minutes before heading off for, believe it or not...milkshakes. http://twitpic.com/24u6kk

Damn these guys are troopers!! They take that lemons-and-make-lemonade saying to a new meaning!!!
How many other bands with 2 of 5 down for the count would even try to put on a show??? I'll tell ya.....not too many.
When the going gets tough, GPN gets going!! Great effort GPN with an even greater result!! And thanks to Van and everyone else for capturing the moments!!

This band and its followers never cease to amaze me!!

Oh yeah, lets not forget the behind the scenes help who also were subject to the 24hr bug but managed to work!!! Nice job guys!!
