Awesomeness...is this a co-headlining show?

The Mountain Park website clearly headlines My Morning Jacket...
They are opening for Tom Petty in the Northeast area, but they are headlining at the Greek Theater in L.A.

Interesting....

I'm going to see My Morning Jacket on August 28. No opener listed yet that I've seen - would be fantastic if GPN joined them. I've only seen GPN once, and not the new line-up.

Karen, unfortunately for you - they will be out in Kansas at the Paola Festival - which will make Owllover and Danado very happy - but doesn't help you. Any chance you'd like to trek over to MASS for the 25th - I know I'd love to meet you in person!

If I got as far as Troy, how much further would it be?

Googled a map. I-90 straight from here to exit 4, then only 6.4 miles north on I-91. It's so incredibly tempting, but midweek and would require two days off work. Already taking two days for a road trip earlier in August. And already attending 6 concerts - 1 down, 5 to go - but none GPN. Will have to ponder this over the weekend.

My three favorite live acts right now (with The Who on the sidelines) are Pearl Jam, MMJ and GPN. As usual, the east coast gets the breaks. GPN's shows in the Denver area this summer are likely to last only an hour (Red Rocks - supporting the movie "Raising Arizona";and the AAA industry show in Boulder; The Belly-up Aspen would be great but it's an 8 hour round trip on a work night.) I've got ten concert friends who have heard me rave about GPN for the last year, and I want to drag them to a full show. These shows aren't going to be the full GPN treatment.

MMJ plays the Denver Music Fest, but is third-billed behind Dave Matthews (I do not understand his appeal) and Weezer, so only one hour there. Pearl Jam hasn't hit Denver in four years. I am feeling short changed!

That's sad, Charles. You don't even want to know how many great venues there are from 30 minutes to a couple of hours away from here, and just about everyone comes that close. Coming up for me soon - Weezer, Flaming Lips, Yo-Yo Ma, My Morning Jacket. I wish I was brave enough to see Muse on Long Island (5-6 hours from here), but that's too complex a situation for me. Pearl Jam was two hours away not long ago, but on a work night and in an arena - still kicking myself for not going anyhow. You gotta move to Western New York. :)

DUDE come on now...u got the belly up and red rocks??? 4hours each way and work the next day...i hear ya but its the belly up my man! DOABLE! that will be epic & they might not make it bak there! and red rocks...sounds like u live close to there around denver (i lived in co 4 a couple years, been to rr a bunch). sounds like a weird gig w the movie and the other band, but again, id expect all that 2 change next time around. i even considerd flying out for those 2 and investigating where they might be on the 4th but it aint happenin. i think u should go to the widespread panic show at red rocks tonight and think about all of this

and o yeah charles i guess u probably dont want to hear about the recent pearl jam tour closer i saw at msg.

and karen whats so complex about Long Island? u comin down 4 mule? i can show u all the tricks! but just in case i dont- DO NOT take the major deegan expressway during a yankee game! id stay off the cross bronx expressway as well. stik w George Wash Bridge>Harlem River Drive/towards FDR Drive>Triborough/RFK Bridge> Grand central Parkway east>Northern State Parkway east.

if there is no ballgame just take the GWB>87south/Major Deegan Expresway(left lane of the exit ramp)>Triborough Bridge...and if u get on the harlem river by mistake no problem it goes to the same bridge. and if u miss them all now u r on the x bronx expressway/95 take it to the throgs neck or whitstone bridge to the cross island parkway south to grand central east.

Lol. *What you said.

I was sort of ok with driving to New Jersey and taking train into NY, but Long Island was just too much. I bump into situations like a blind rat until I've learned the maze. Can't handle a NYC learning curve.

well u could always just take 287 east off of the thruway, go over the tappan zee bridge and get off at the Hutchinson Parkway south which goes directly to the whitestone bridge then get right on the cross island south (now u r in queens but not 4 long) to the grand central/northern state east, as soon as u get on that it changes from queens to nassau-and u r maybe 15 minutes from the mule gig in westbury. that is actually really easy and u avoid nyc all together, and its only maybe an xtra 15 minutes than just going thru the city. that is actually super easy in all seriousness.

Eric: I cut and pasted all your directions. Who knows, I may decide to try it sometime. For the most part, my mental map has been formed by mistakes and subsequent backtracking - an efficient way to learn the way and discover new territory at the same time. Thanks.

Eric- Thanks for the encouragement. My point about Red Rocks is that it will only be a one hour show (not to mention before sundown). I want my concert friends to get a full headlining show. My Wife and I will likely go to Red Rocks. We've never done "Film on the Rocks" but I read the other day that these shows regualrly sell out (only $10). Usually the support band is a local one, but GPN ought to get some good exposure. Maybe next year, they will headlline here!

The Belly Up is out of the question. I actually have to work til 5 pm, so it would be a challenge to get to Aspen in time, then mIdnight to 4 a.m over Independence Pass is not appealing (think Snuffy Smif' walking the ledge) I appreciate they are going from the Northwest to K. City, so it is what it is. Maybe they will book a full show in Denver before or after they play the AAA in August.

Saw Panic a couple of years ago, but skipping them this year. Next Red Rocks show for me (without a movie headlining :-) ) is String Cheese.

I follow the PJ message board pretty avidly, so I envy you. 34 songs, not counting all the tags. A cover of "The Real Me", a rare playing of the Whoish sounding Present Tense, not to mention f*cking Rearviewmirror. Plus MSG is 3/4 full of fanatic Ten Club fans so this show was epic. I have flown out to MSG for a few Who shows, it's sort of like Mecca, although you know, Red Rocks is also Mecca for the hard core of any band. Sorry to get off topic from GPN here. I'm guessing those New Years Eve shows for GPN are kind of Mecca for the GPN hardcore fans. I burned that show with all the Top Gun stuff.

OK first of all, one reason I am posting this, so I'll have ten posts and no longer be a "new member". : -)

I decided to check the dates around August 11, when GPN plays the Boulder Fox with Robert Randolph Family Band for the AAA radio conference. This show is not on the GPN website for some reason although tickets are on sale and it's listed on Pollstar. Again, this will have a bunch of industry types there, so a good chance for promotion, but I am guessing not a full show. RRFB will regret coming on after GPN! There are pretty big gaps before and after AAA so I am hoping a Denver headline gig can be thrown in there. MY friends await their conversion.

I was just going to mention that GPN gets plenty of love on my Pandora, when Paint it Black came on. My first GPN show featured an epic cover of Paint it Black. Shout out to GPN, it would be nice to work that back in on occasion, not to mention Gettin' in Tune. Apologies to White Rabbit fans.

Yes...I am very demanding today.

Just bought my ticket to this show. Have never seen MMJ before, but am taking it on faith and the recommendations here that it will be an amazing show. $45.50 with the service charges - yikes! GPN alone makes it worth it. :)

Not sure if "you may not post attachments" includes links, but here is a great sampler of MMJ, Trish. This is a band that has also gone through a metamorphosis, and I love it all. http://video.pbs.org/video/1470868107/ . In fact, now that I've looked it up gonna listen to the whole thing.
