I just got an email from KBCO in which the subject line announced a new GPN show. It's at the Ogden Theatre in Denver on Sept. 28. Pre-sale tickets are tomorrow. My excitement dampened however, because it appears GPN is once again the support act, for a band called "Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings" since GPN is listed second, or perhaps it is considered a co-billing. I see that GPN is also playing Santa Fe with this band the night before. Sorry, but I doubt Sharon Jones is quite in the same league as My Morning Jacket to deserve top billing.

Bottom line, they are passing through the Denver area for the fourth time since last summer, and likely will play only 1 hour, maybe 1 1/2 hours tops. The new album plus White Rabbit plus 2-3 others. <sigh>

Come on GPN, hurry up and get some hits off this album, so you can graduate from "Almost Famous" and headline a full show in Denver! Even flippin' Kansas City got a 2 hour headline show last week (after GPN supported "Raising Arizona" for an hour at Red Rocks) didn't they?

Hey Charles - I don't know how this show is billed - that would be a question for Nate - but i can say that Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are dynamic and a great foil for the Nocs- Sharon has inspired Grace a bit too, sharing a Jam Cruise and a concert or two along the way, I know they discussed dance moves - -anyway - - I was happy to see them both at the Pines for the Royal Family Get Down last fall. Let KBCO and all the other CO stations know that you want to hear this band - it may help to make them headline more in your neck of the woods~

Since Grace loves Sharon - I bet they jumped at the chance. Plus, they're kind of a big deal.

Charles, brother, u dont want to miss that! i dont recommend too many bands following GPN onstage right now but Sharon Jones should get it done. would be sik if they sing together...lets see how long the set actually is and what Grace has up her sleeve 4 ya after the well received red rocks gig.

i understand they havnt been playing all full sets out west, and none of us can make em all...but Belly Up, The Fox, The OGDEN-these places are all epic & tiny...DUDE u gotta be hitting GPN @ these venues before they become a distant memory to this band. right now the sets range approx 1-2 hours dependent on the circumstances. seems like they actually legitimately headlined the Crossroads at Kansas City and were given the 2 hour slot. for that they delivered one of their top shows of the year, unquestionably (riding the high of red rox, the show before, of course ;-). id imagine w sharon jones in the house they WILL NOT disappoint, although it might not be a two hour set, right now everyone of us is just taking whatever we can get, when we can get it. GPN could be one of the biggest live acts in the country a year from now. they just announced a run of local northeast shows a bunch of us cant hit at all whatsoever since it was so last minute (and THOSE will be 2 hrs, in addition to Blues & Lasers opening), so be happy u had some advance notice for aug-sept shows. and that u don't need to take a ferry there and bak that stops running at 9 pm, with 3 night hotel minimums at $300 a night... (maybe they can also set up a ring of fire we can jump thru backwards and blindfolded on our way 2 nantucket?)

Well, I thought maybe someone would set me straight on Sharon Jones, so fine, it should be fun, though I would still prefer more GPN.

Ogden is a co-headliner. GPN plays for 75-90 minutes, which is actually the length of every headlining slot they play.

Having checked out Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings in more detail tonight, I am enthused about the double bill. As I've posted before, I have several friends I've been wanting to bring to a GPN show and this looks like an entertaining night to do it.

And all due respect Nate, my first GPN show in 2008, also at the Ogden, clocked in at 1:55 per Archive.org. as well as other shows I see on that site. And again, with all due respect, 2 hours is a bit more "consumer-friendly" and expected by fans, than the times you suggest. :)

(I hope I can stay on this message board if I don't agree with the band's manager) :)

All due respect Charles, they're not my suggested times. 75 - 90 minutes is the length of a headline set. That doesn't mean they don't ever go over that time. It depends on the venue's curfew policy as well as how responsive the crowd is.

(I've survived worse than just disagreements on these boards, you'll be fine) :)

just go see every show you can.
unfortunately for us - Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings play in Phx on 9/26 - but GPN is in OK City that night -
so not a double-bill for Arizona.
maybe we'll get a winter show if GPN plays the left coast sometime.....

i will post this question for Nate here...I will not be in Denver but very curious for that show, and otherwise-when you say they are "Co-Headlining"-to me that means there is a chance GPN will actually close the show, and that whoever plays first/second, they are essentially alloted the same amount of time to perform (90 minutes for each band)...is this the case? any chance GPN plays second at the Ogden?

is there any chance GPN will "Co-Headline" 10-30-10 w the Avett Bros at the Ryman Auditorium, or is this an opening slot?

thank you Nate, as u know your answers to these baffling mysteries will have a profound affect on the fate of the universe.

i will add that in NY and in Aspen GPN's Headling sets were about 90 mins with approx 20 minute encore, including the breif walk-offs and all inclusive, they were about 1:55. the DC show and a couple others must have been at least 2 hrs-but they all go by way too fast, dont they. nice to hear from Management GPN goes later than they should most of the time, when they can...another SHOCKER...

Hey Charles and other Colorado fans... there's another great sounding triple-bill coming up soon -- 8/11 at the Fox in Boulder: Robert Randolf and the Family Band, GPN, and Dr. Dog.

Thanks Sue, but unfortunately I'll be out of town.
