Here's the intro to a smokey, sultry Joey from this show, Grace starts it off on the floor, beating the bass and slinking on up to the mic - sound is kinda beat, but the visual takes you there!

then there's this one from further back with better sound

best goodbye kiss i have ever heard, and i like them all. alot.

GBK usually has Scott on lead slide guitar and harmonica. this version has the best slide/tremolo soloing i have heard as part of this song, or at all, almost like a step up to a new signature sound, super surfy wavy! GPN gets compared to the 60-70s alot, how bout the 50's? sikness.

only thing is, at the end of the song , Grace says "Benny Yurco on the guitar" and to be honest that blistering slide doesnt quite sound like Scotts SG normally sounds, its just a little crispier or something (could be nothing, the same gear sounds a little different venue to venue. could be an alternate/touring amp or any # of things...). but the tremolo work like i said is a little more extensive (but contained, like Scott does so well-that is not easy, its all feeling/instinct). then...the next song is that phone where scott is usually playing drums. i might be hearing things but it almost sounds like that evil lead is trying to linger out (teased) on that phone. that might just be me hearing shit once that nasty GBK line was stuck in my brain. but i am confused for sure.

so here are my questions-is Benny Yurco playing the lead guitar in this version of GBK?
if not, which guitar did Scott use? does anyone know?

I know that Benny Yurco takes a back seat in this band. I have seen him with B&L and it is a different Benny. He is equal to Scott in talent, we just havnt had the opportunity to become as familliar with his stuff other than his role in GPN. tough to compare 2 guys that are really best when they just play together, but i will say this-if that is Yurco on the lead for GBK at the raliegh show, we officially have a quarterback controversy.

i've listened to it again...the craziness im hearing is the 2 of them playing together. thats Benny on the "surf" unquestionably, scott on slide.

the chemistry they have achieved at this point is unreal

dont be shy, this whole show is another standout:

This was my first GPN show. I didn't even know who they were until I saw them on Jay Leno about a week earlier. I'm in catch-up mode. Why didn't this show sell out??? Grace is phenomenal! Wow!

I had to laugh at the timing of this show. The first of 20,000 members of Omega Psi Phi were starting to trickle into town for a weekend convention (no, I wasn't there to participate). Those guys love to have a good time, but I doubt that many of them would have an interest in hearing a white girl sing the blues! LOL

For those online who have never been to Raleigh, NC, the Lincoln Theater is an old downtown venue with a lot of personality and attitude. The outdoor mural on the west wall shows Abraham Lincoln driving an old Lincoln. It is one of the crown jewels in an increasingly cool downtown Raleigh.

I also thought it was great to see Catherine get such a huge ovation from the home state crowd.

I'm not quite sure everyone got her joke about the old Raleigh vs. Charlotte rivalry. All I have to say about it is...GO CHARLOTTE!

Hey there and welcome to you! Thanks for posting your thoughts and your local lore - I don't think I'm alone here in saying that I really enjoy reading about tidbits from a show I couldn't possibly go to. Thanks again for sharing with us here!
