Hi! I've been wanting to see the band for a while but it just hasn't worked out with my schedule then I saw the above date which I can do...then learned it's with the Avett Brothers and it looks like GP is opening(don't understand this but then again I'm not a Avett Brothers fan)...anyway...so how long would GP play? It would be about a 4 hour drive for me so want to know if it's worth the long haul.
Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the board Scott.
There has been some discussion of the Avett Bros in another thread . . can read it here (http://www.gracepotter.com/forums/showthread.php/149-GPN-The-Avett-Bros?highlight=Avett)
I'm not a good one to comment on drive time for any show ... there's a good reason for my board name - 4 hrs sounds pretty reasonable to me :D

Thanks for the welcome and the link...helpful but still wondering, has anyone seen them together yet? Whats the set length if they are opening?
I guess four hours isn't that bad but then again would get a hotel room for overnight at the harbor so not cheap.

Scott - hello to you and let me send another welcome. I've been to a bunch of GPN shows - yes, it's best when they headline, but, I'm the kind of fan that loves to hear them play live, so sometimes you just go even if they don't headline. When they open -- they have been known to blow the headliner away -- and try to sneak in a little extra set time too, just cuz they love to play live. Anyway - depends on the venue for sure - but you could probably count on at least 45min to 1 hour +
If I were close enough to Baltimore to make the drive and do the hotel and get back to work in time - I'd consider it - my drive would about 6 hours . ..
Thanks again for coming aboard!

. . . has anyone seen them together yet?
The two bands haven't done shows together yet but they have played quite a few of the same festivals . . maybe there is someone who has seen them in that setting that will see your question and comment.
Afraid the best I can do is tell you that a friend who has been a big fan of the Avett Bros for quite a while also likes GPN . . I'm kind of her mirror image - have been seriously interested in GPN for about 2 1/2 yrs and like a lot of what the Avett's do.
Agree with Snowbird - hearing GPN live is worth the effort . . if you have the time and this is the closest opportunity you think you'll have - Go . . I don't think you'll be sorry.
Hmm .. just realized this advice is coming from a couple of people who each drove several hours to see GPN minus Cat play a few songs stuffed between some shelving on Record Store Day. Guess it's about perspective, and maybe a little about adventure. :D

Adventure is always welcome, especialy when it includes live music - and I actually did the record store gig twice (With Port City Music Hall thrown in for good measure second time around!)
Go 2 DC instead.
Or if u can't, then do baltimore...I wouldn't think twice of driving 4 hours 2 see a gpn opening set, but I also wouldn't think twice about jumping bak in my car when they finish and blowing off the Avett bros & the harborfront hotel and just driving home. Sounds to me like your mission has 10-29-10 written all over it.

Wish I could do DC but can't with my schedule...it almost has to be a Saturday right now. I have to admit the Avett Brothers are growing on me..might not be that bad to see both. Looks like slime ticket scalpers scooped up many of the first first section(funny how so much show up on stubhub and ebay so quickly after going on sale). Anyone been to Pier Six? Is the 200 sections ok to be at? Wish this was at Rams Head, like that venue better...might be a bit cold at the Pier at the end October.

Nice!
listening to the audio now, sounds great. NBTW opener...is this an outdoor venue located right down in the inner harbor of baltimore? i guess that would explain the Grace tweet of a passing cruise ship's passengers dancing to the soundcheck.
and of course the rare performance of TINN, u lucky beeatches!
how was the avett bros? the crowd sounds really into GPN
