At the VT Brewers Festival last month, Switchback released a Slow-Fermented Brown Ale. Supposedly American Flatbread is scheduled to have it on draft, not sure if it's currently available, but worth checking out if you're in the area and enjoy beer! I am not the biggest fan of brown ales, but I really enjoyed this one. Wish I could be there this weekend - to all that are, Cheers and Noc n Roll!
Mallory I will not be there but def appreciate you sharing this info. I know Joester was in the market for some crafty options so hopefully he will see this if he has not taken off yet. (i have a feeling he will be just fine)
For me I like all types of beer, just depends on the mood, the weather, ya know, the moment. some beer i just cant drink. sorry Boston, Sam Adams is at the top of that list. all of them.
lots of crafty stouts and ales out there, but my fave is probably the Porter if I had to choose one. maybe magic hat will brew up a "Potterville Porter" sooner than later???

I hope joester see this as well, but Burlington is filled with so many tasty craft brews - it's hard to go wrong. I'm with you on the Sam Adams (and I've been living in Boston for the last 6 years now), Boston Lager is good in a pinch, but .... I'm a huge Hop Head, the more hops the better - IPAs are my favorite style. For some odd reason though, this summer I have been really into the stouts! My favorite stout of the summer? hands down: McNeill's Dark Angel Imperial Stout - INCREDIBLE. Highly highly recommend it.
That would be amazing if Magic Hat brewed something, wouldn't it? Not sure if they will though, this Wednesday Magic Hat was bought out by a NY beer maker (http://beeradvocate.com/news/2956975) - not quite sure what this change will bring, only time shall tell, I suppose!
Maybe this will be my time to shine as a homebrewer... I have had a recipe for a Porter up my sleeve for quite a while now, my plan is to brew it this fall, so probably my next batch - and, I won't say much, but I will tell you that it is thoughtfully and cleverly named :)
not sure if this will work but check out this email Magic Hat sent me yesterday, looks like this would be right up GPN's Alley:
http://hosted.verticalresponse.com/272106/5fad05906e/1275012509/df6e3e8566/
and dont sweat the buy-out...it is likely just a distribution thing. biz as usual 4 the brewery, i would imagine.
home brewin, huh? a friend of mine is into that. the porter always came out the best ;-
Mallory, u tellin me there is possibly a "Grace Porter" in my future? first the epic photography and now copius amounts of homebrew in your pantry? u r just full of suprises, aren't u
so magic hat got bought out by genny - i'm so disturbed by this news.

Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast is one of my favorite imperial stouts - I've got a few that I am cellaring currently - we'll see how long they last :)
the first beer on toofarnorth's list is made right in my hometown! i must confess, even though porter is my favorite, i have never heard of or tried the "Blind Bat Hellsmoke Porter" but i guess that can all change very soon with little effort...if it is indeed worthy ill pick up a case and bring it to whatever show i might meet some of u other beer drinkin nocturnal posse freaks at! GPN or otherwise...
and we have the Blue Point beer company down here too (thats south shore LI, the Hellsmoke is north shore-to all of u that know nothing about LI-u are very lucky!-but the south shore is more like jersey and the north shore more like connecticut, its like night and day). Blue point beer is excellent. they have this blueberry beer, not to sound like a panzy little girl, but it is deliciuos! Blue POINT-not to be confused with Blue MOON (i personally still can't get it straight).
Blue Moon is from Golden Colorado and they are excellent as well. they recently started seasonal beers and the "Blue Moon Full Moon Winter Ale" is literally one of THEEE tastiest beers ive ever had and possibly my favorite of all time.

I really like Blue Points 'Hoptical Illusion', and their 'Toasted Lager' is good too! Next time I'm on LI, I am hoping to set some time aside to check out the brewery - have you been there?
Believe it or not, Blue Moon is brewed by Coors. If you like the Full Moon style (I believe it's a dubbel), you should check out Ommegang Abbey Ale, and if you have access to any Allagash beers, Allagash brews a dubbel that is also really really good.

All I know is that I drank the Summer Ale they had at the Lake Champlain festival and it was so good. Too good. I had more fun doing that than seeing the show and that usually isnt the norm for me. The Vermont beer police at the festival were so strict. But I guess they are just doing their jobs and in the end, no drunken fights so all was well.
ahh yes the toasted lager is Blue Point's standard. i have seen bands play at the brewery but it was several years ago. i actully think the "Rythm Devils" just played there, or they are soon. Blue Point also just hosted the "Great South Bay Music Fest" which i went to. was reasonably priced and i saw Karl Densons Tiny Universe, the New Deal, and some local bands. was the weekend right after one of my GPN benders, either colorado or nantucket, i cant even remember-isnt that horrible! (i think after CO)
The Blue Moon Full Moon is outta this world. it is made with mollasses or brown sugar, or both, or something...I def have no beef/no shame with coors and on a typical night where i am partaking, the chain of events would likely involve starting with a few Full Moons, or else some other crafty brew as detailed below, then switching over to the silver bullets for the long haul (which 4 me aint too long at all...but it just tastes so good! right when it touches your lips!). and i do love my beer in an ice cold aluminum can! i know that sounds crazy but dominate an ice cold can of Fat Tire at Red Rocks sometime and get back to me on that one!
and Mallory-next time u r on LI, do HOLLA!

Danado -
IF you bring your ID to a festy - they have these uber-cool wristbands you can get (for free!),
and you can have a beer in each hand and not get in trouble.
highly recommended as a hassle-preventer :)
love ya sister!
