Great show, I believe i have a setlist
Some Kind of Ride
Joey
Good Bye Kiss
Tiny Light
Apologies
One Short Night
Ah Mary
Hot Summer Night
Paris
White Rabbit
Medicine
And a Lineup
Grace Potter
Scott Tournet - Guitar
Matt Burr - Drums
John Rogonne - bass ( Blues and Lasers Bass Player, filling in)
Benny Yurco - Guitar
This is in preparation for posting to etree. But i have a question regarding the bassist. The spelling above is from the Blues and Lasers site, and i assume it is correct, but i have seen it other ways, no E at the end with one N , E with only one N, and no E with two Ns. Any help?
In return ill post the etree address to the flacs and a megaupload address to mp3s soon.
Thanks Y'awls

It looks like etree is in a bad way, its domain expired. It may take a day or two to sort out.

I'd swear i copied&pasted the "two N" version from this page http://www.bluesandlasers.com/theband.cfm but i dont see it anywhere on it now. I dunno,
The text file for etree has been updated with John Rogone. I'm a little scared to go with "FunkmeisterBassSlapper".
THe Etree problems are being worked out, propagation of the new entries is underway, i hope to post there later tonite.

Now I must preface this with that i feel Sharon to be trade friendly because there is a lot of her stuff at bt.etree and being there implies the previous recorders felt they had permission to share. Its kinda of an honor thing, so im basing mine on theirs here.
If you wish to hear the other part of the blue note show you can find VBR mp3s of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings here
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LFHU81EJ
It was my first exposure to Sharon and i did enjoy it a lot. Maybe not quite my cup of tea, but still wicked fun, she claimed to be slightly sick (allergies) but was a wildwoman on stage. A group of performers well worth seeing if you can.
I hope to have lossless at bt.etree soon, and maybe even a video at youtube too. I hope you enjoy this.

Hucklive . . . have you ever thought of using archive.org instead of megaupload ? I've never had problems with it (now I jinxed myself) but know some people who have and won't use it.
GPN has a very large catalog of shows posted on Archive.org.
link to GPN's shows (http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=%28collection%3AGracePotterandthe Nocturnals%20OR%20mediatype%3AGracePotterandtheNoc turnals%29%20AND%20-mediatype%3Acollection&sort=-date) . . that list is the Date search option
An artist has to file a letter saying they approve uploads so no question as to whether it's okay or not. They also offer different formats for download including VBR which, imho, produces a very good CD and requires no conversion.
Just a thought . . . not trying to be pushy or nosy - you may have reasons you don't use it

Hucklive . . . have you ever thought of using archive.org instead of megaupload ? I've never had problems with it (now I jinxed myself) but know some people who have and won't use it.
I am aware of the live music archive, have download things from there and there are a few of the shows i have recorded there, although i did not upload them there myself. While it does offer streaming and mp3s the primary format they are interested in is lossless flacs and i even often produce them, but the flacs for Grace were 329meg and the flacs for Sharon are 668 meg. It took me over 8 hours to get the initial seed of Grace out and it may take me close to a whole day to get the initial seed of Sharon out via bt.etree.org and that is using a restartable torrenting protocol.
I have tried to download flacs from the archive and have had numerous problems with a large transfer being incomplete after being canceled at their end. It is no secret that they periodically close long running transfers and it is no fun to have to restart a transfer that has been running for an hour from the beginning. The bittorrent protocol is designed with restarability and error detection in mind so a transfer failure does not result in any major data loss. The same is true of the transfer method i use for megaupload.
Still i have shows available from the archive yet i did not upload them there. This is because of a gentleman known as lunchbox0016 who serves as an archivist for Derek Trucks. When he finds shows in the bittorrent realm that are not at the archive he uploads them to the archive and leaves us a note in the comments. I have yet to see anyone be bothered by this, in fact most of the original seeders thank him for his efforts. I expect that he both has a fast internet connection and understands the archive upload protocol better than we do.
I have seen a number of Grace shows that move in the bittorrent realm that are not found at the archive so i assume that no such archivist group exists for her. Tonite i will start seeding Sharons show and expect it to take until tomorrow afternoon or most likely evening before a full copy has been sent out, but at that time 25 or more people may have that first copy and it will have happened without my needing to take any further interest than to make sure the bittorrent box is still running. If i were to instead upload to the archive after the same time i would find certain songs had not successfully transferred and have to restart them, maybe even more than once. Depending on how the transfer was terminated i might even find no songs have been transferring at all for hours and so the process may stretch out for days before a copy is available for anyone else to download. With my more limited internet connection i do not have the patience to go thru all that. With megaupload getting the mp3s i can have mp3s ready to download in a few hours even if the transfer has to be restarted, for i can restart it with only minor data loss and it often restarts itself after a problem. And while it does take a while for the flacs to transfer even via bittorrent, again i can restart the transfer from where it ended if there is some sort of problem and i dont have to worry about the other end closing the connection on a whim and causing me to loose tens or a hundred of meg of already uploaded material and start from the beginning. Besides the hour spent at the show recording it is not unusual to find i have spent another 4-6 hours processing, tracking, and preparing ah hour set for sharing, and then you ave to listen to that final product again to make sure all went well. Since i was not already familiar with Sharons material i spent closer to 8 hours just tracking and preparing a setlist. Im sure you must understand how frustrating it must be to then spend hours uploading only to find there was some transfer error and the transfer has to start over from the beginning. Before i started using the megaupload external upload program this happened numerous times getting mp3s up to a fileshare site, and often i was not able to restart for many hours after an overnite failure. This is why i have chosen megaupload for the mp3s and use bittorrent sites for the flacs.
I hope you understand.
Edit: and oh yea, video of Sharon doing "This land is your land" is now available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJmkAf5DTh0
Hucklive u r the man! (or woman!)
seriously though thank u for all your efforts i know how much of a process that all is because i used to dabble in live recordings but simply could not keep up with the computer end of things, and this was several years ago. i still have some choice DATs that were never transferred over to CD, and a few that were but never circulated via the archive. i looked at what has to be done to upload them on the live archive but i dont see the point in DLing all those programs and doing all that for a couple old DATs, more likely i will pass them off to someone that is still active in that regard and have them do it right the first time. i never had mics, just patched into someone else or the SBD, so i was not a true taper. i think it takes a lot more motivation today than it did back then to sacrifice your freedom at a show and get it done, so truly-THANK YOU
and also for years i was stuck on losses audio only, but at some point i just succumbed to the sheer amount of music that was available as an mp3 and the rate at which it could be obtained...my original thought was id have a lossless world and an mp3 world, but todays mp3s sound very good compared to a few years ago (as per the below comment by 2FN- VBR as well as other larger sized file mp3s, in some cases 4 x the size or larger than a few years ago) i have really just completely mellowed out about that whole scene...its either audible or it isn't. and one thing ill say about most or possibly all GPN tapers is they are first class with their equip and everything else because all my files are mp3s and they all sound excellent or better. a few true gems out there that could easily be confused with a SBD or matrix-and this is as an mp3. 6-4-10 and 8-19-10 are among them and both are outdoor audience recordings...so we r a lucky bunch. Hucklive your recording is absolutely right up there, and the first one we got with John on bass! good shee at

Hucklive . . thank you for the explanation . . I don't have a lot of technical knowledge but get the gist of what you're saying.
I don't download every show - usually only the ones I've been at or have something unique about them and in that case I may only get specific songs.
But I can listen to a lot of shows on Archive just by hitting the play button . . . and I can post a link that will hopefully get other people to go listen to GPN's live music since it is so easy for them to do so.
I also post their links on selist.fm whenever I can so that anyone checking out a particular show's setlist can go hear the actual show if they want to.
In other words . . I like the archive.org site because it is so easy to use from My side of the equation . . feel free to chalk that up to a combo of me being a little selfish and a little lazy ! :D

I understand, and have done the same at times. But i am severely bandwidth challenged with most of it available only at nite. I now download things to listen to later for the most part, but often point people at shows in the archive knowing they will just stream. I keep thinking i need to figure out how to deal with uploading to the archive but there always is some new show i need to upload or download and no time to play.
and also for years i was stuck on losses audio only, but at some point i just succumbed to the sheer amount of music that was available as an mp3 and the rate at which it could be obtained..
Many times i will download mp3-only from the archive, but the "bigtime" is the flac sharing community. While i am not a bitrate-nazi i do feel that show originals should be available in a lossless form. But then let me also tell you of Kevin Devine and the demoines mp3s which have been downloaded 90 times while the flacs only 21. But those 21 probably enjoyed getting the lossless a lot, and im glad i was able to help (i mean the link to the mp3s is on the torrent description page)
AND
did anybody else just notice Sharon plain killing'em on Jimmy Kimmel?

Thanks
These all still have seeders, there may be more that dont have a seeder anymore. And it was a quick comparison by eye and show, not source. There may be sources found only in bittorrent that are not on archive but another source is there. I think i have one show that was on dimeadozen and never made it to bt.etree, but i think it was in the archive.

Every now and again id try to point someone to a specific show and realize that show hadnt made it into the archive. Lunchbox0016 does the Derek community a large favor and doesnt receive the credit he deserves from the non bittorrent side. There are also shows in the archive that have never torrented as well, but that is less of a situation.
Should you find a show with no seeders here ( http://bt.etree.org/?searchz=&cat=287&incldead=1 ) yet i left a comment on it, it means i have it and with a little work can restore it back online and would be happy to seed it again. Feel free to message me. I recently spent like two weeks happily reseeding shows the steam powered aeroplane society didnt have in their archive and now do.
And no "mr" needed, just a guy. I most often just use huck online but that name was taken in both dime and etree before i got there. I have taken to using the hucklive nickname i picked there instead on music related sites since.

Hucklive, thanks for your detailed explanation, 90% of which went over my head, but I could read, on the underbelly as it went over, the words "takes a shitload of time" and that was a satisfactory answer to me. While I have always appreciated the tapers, I have a newfound respect for their patience and tech ability.

Trying to download the Bit torrent files (aka "flacs") also takes a shit load of time and then you have to convert them to mp3, which is why most of us like archive.org (you can download one all or none and just listen to the mp3's)......but I agree with TH1 and I too respect and thank anyone who has ever taped and uploaded a show. I've only met a handful of tapers personally but they all seemed to be decent individuals. Thanks again!!

thanks for your efforts. as a former taper (but still one at heart - looking to buy an Edirol R-09HR), I appreciate your efforts.

we live in time where tecchnology is advancing quickly, and thank goodness for that.

So should i keep going? i have another 5 tunes processed to avi already. ive been watching two of the people i subscribe to upload what are now seeming to be entire shows[YMSB and Greg Buchanan ]. Im not sure i saw a video policy anywhere, the downconverted avis are getting about 2000kbps, not great, ok for youtube tho. would it be considered impolite by the band or management?
And i suspect you will enjoy a r09, but you may also find other uses for your older toys, many cherish them still as a way to digitize older collections.
