Jeff Tweedy and Mavis Staples are promoting her new album, You Are Not Alone, that Jeff T produced.

Tonight (Tuesday, 10/5) on David Letterman
and
Wednesday, 10/6, on the Colbert Report . . . that could be interesting.



It is probably safe to assume they will be performing the title track from the album.


Little did Mavis Staples know, but the real prize—a song so inspired and moving that it’s likely to go down as an instant gospel classic—was still waiting on the horizon. “You Are Not Alone,” fittingly the new album’s title track, is a shiver-inducing original by Jeff Tweedy that sounds like it is heaven-sent. In some ways, it actually is.

Sidenote : Jeff T was part of the FarmAid concert last Saturday . . one of the songs he sang was "You Are Not Alone".
Love Mavis singing it . . love him singing it . . it truly is a great song.

A clearer video may come along later but for now . . .

Still wish they'd done "You Are Not Alone" or the other song Jeff wrote for her "Only the Lord Knows" . (review (http://www.crawdaddy.com/index.php/2010/09/22/album-review-mavis-staples-you-are-not-alone/) )
But CCR's "Wrote A Song For Everyone" was a good choice for a late night audience.

In the interview, Colbert comes off as uncharacteristically deferential, even inviting Staples to perform at the big rally that he and Jon Stewart are bringing to Washington, D.C. on October 30
