A great match - those are some lucky venues. Since Scott is closely involved with them, hopefully there will be more. I'd sure like to see them together.

Biography
Chamberlin plays music in a secluded log cabin, high in the mountains of Goshen, VT (population 200). The cabin is surrounded by National Forest that can never be developed. When the band rehearses, they look out over a view that has not changed since one member’s father pieced the logs together in the late 1970s. There are no houses, no lights and no other people in sight. The seclusion allows for late night, whiskey-fueled rehearsals with close friends, fireworks, and grilled steaks with asparagus. On calmer days, plinking with rifles and long-winded backgammon games ensue.

Formed in the summer of 2010, Chamberlin recorded their debut album in Burlington, Vermont with producer Scott Tournet, who plays guitar for fellow Vermonters Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and Blues & Lasers. The record, Bitter Blood, will be out in 2011 on Roll Call Records/EMI.

Locked away in their cabin, Chamberlin created a record stained with the influence of bonfires, harsh winters, geographical isolation and the women that seem to run perpendicular to their lives. From the electric opening track, "Fools" – a stormy, scathing rebuke of two lovers – to the resolute, mostly a capella "Sixty Days," the nine songs on Bitter Blood are photographs, or perhaps photograms, of Chamberlin's world, with varying degrees of aperture. Despite its title, Bitter Blood is not without pleasantries. For the band, while contemplative, is not jaded. "Turn Around," the B3-laden third track, may even sound best as a drink-in-hand, late-night back porch sing-along. After all, "bitter blood," as the title track asserts, "breaks like a cigarette."

Anyone who gets to see Chamberlin on the upcoming tour is in for a real treat. I was totally blown away by them when they opened for GPN in Burlington on Tuesday night. Bought the new album and listened to it 5 times on my drive back home to CT today. Takes a LOT to get me to listen to something other than GPN while I'm driving. Here's one not to be missed:

pretty modest of GPN and Chamberlin to tell us Scott Tournet produced the new Chamberlin album. well, guess what. he is playing guitar on 3 tracks as well. he is firing away on the title track "Bitter Blood," and u can also hear his eerie lap-steel guitar from the opening licks of “Turn Around” and more lap/slide on “The Right Guide.” he has really got that thing dialed in, “The Right Guide” sounds more like a PEDAL STEEL guitar.

still my favorite track so far is “Paper Crown.” no Scotty but heavy on the calypso alternative rock steeze! seriously though gonna have to listen to the cd for a couple more weeks before it really sets in and i can form an honest opinion. sounds pretty nast aye so far. i will say the Chamberlin set on 12-28 at Higher Ground was nothing short of epic. they must be happy with the way they performed. Very strong vocals from the front man.

I honestly thought at first GPN was taking them on tour cause they are friends from Vermont, but this band deserves everything coming thier way. They just formed this past summer or something. I think they will be successful on the road I wish them the best out there.

I was wondering how Chamberlin was traveling on this tour. Looks like they are driving a van and a trailer, according to a blog they are keeping. This blog is worth checking out, as they recount their first tour adventures, including the brawl in Vancouver when they went with GPN to see Dawes.

I did something I don't normally do today. I ordered the Chamberlin cd sight unseen. I usually have to research a band, however I'm putting my faith in Scott and hoping that I was right in doing so. I have to say most music that has been recommended to me here I have enjoyed.

You won't regret it. For a freshman effort it's amazingly mature. If I had to compare them to anyone it would be Everest or Dawes perhaps.

I enjoyed what I heard on the site and just went for it. I siked to have it arrive. I'm getting way into folky rock records lately must be my advancing age. If there anything like Band of Horses I'll be all in. I'm excited can wait to hear this band play. Any links to audio from the past shows with GPN?

Bitter Blood is a curious hybrid of indie rock — both the reverb-washed and jangly varieties — and hard-charging, Southern-fried rock. Think Band of Horses meets … well, maybe Blues and Lasers. The album reveals a band whose maturity far outstrips its age. It is loaded with ambitious ideas, executed to near perfection.

Karen I checked the Facebook schedule which has more dates than their website (must be a vt thing ;)) didnt see any up by u, but i did see they are returning to nyc in 16 days which i am absolutely ecstatic about. at the Mercury Lounge on Wed May 18th.

also Mark Daly told me right to my melted face that the Chamberlin show on August 13 (at the GPN fest) is going to be a serious throw down, so i hope maybe u can make that one. he told me this right after he played this song:

there are a ton of Chamberlin vids on utube, including several unreleased tunes. they have played at least 2 shows in NYC that i did not know of (back in the fall).

here is one from the Fillmore in San Fran. Chamberlin and GPN together covering MMJ's "Golden." (notice Catherine on the Hammond B3, epic!)

more of Chamberlin covering MMJ. no Nox on the team this time, just straight Chamberlin style. Marc said something to me about hanging out on his friend's rooftop in Brooklyn and looking at the NYC skyline...but he didnt mention anything about this!

Last night, Chamberlin opened for Carbon Leaf at Water Street Music Hall in Rochester. They were in the smaller concert room, on a small stage so filled with gear there was barely any elbow room. I went just to see them, so for this time it was good that they were opening. However, they announced that they will be headlining at Water Street on November 3 – a nice step up, and well deserved.

Chamberlin’s songs pop into my head all the time because I’ve played their CD way more than any other since it first came out – exclusively for several months just recently. So some of this ‘setlist’ could be a figment of that, I didn’t actually keep track.

Definitely:
Dust
Turn Around
Paper Crown
Souvenirs
Bitter Blood
Fools
Is It Me

Possibly:
Sixty Days

Mark announced they were singing a new song, and just then two people came up to the front and rudely started talking loudly to the girl next to me. Grrr. Either the new song was “Is It Me?” or that song has two different parts, because they slid right from “new song” into what I'm pretty sure was “Is It Me?” During the last song, someone turned down or off the main microphone which gave the odd effect of main part of song almost whispered, and backup part almost shouted. Other than that, the sound was fine.

It was a good audience with lots of appreciation for Chamberlin. Many people outside in line were praising them, and praising GPN too. And, they made the right kind of noise at the right times.

While the band was getting their gear out to the trailer, I had the opportunity to speak to them briefly on the sidewalk and let them know how much I appreciate their music. They were receptive to that and very sweet in their response. I wanted to hug each one of them, but just walked away and left them to their packing up and going home for a much-needed break.

What is Mark thinking?

http://www.covermesongs.com/2011/09/chamberlin-returns-with-a-cover-of-kanye-wests-lost-in-the-world.html

http://www.covermesongs.com/MP3s/News0911/16LostintheWorld.mp3

In a project that we’re keeping a close eye on here at Cover Me, Vermont-based folk outfit Chamberlin (http://www.covermesongs.com/tag/chamberlin) is putting together an EP of covers that they asked fans to help choose on their website. The voting period ended at the beginning of this week, but you can still check out the contest page to see the eight possible songs, four of which will be chosen for the release. The fruits of their labor are now starting to appear, with their version of Kanye West (http://www.covermesongs.com/tag/kanye-west)’s “Lost In The World” hitting the internet this week.

Recorded in the band’s cabin, situated in the middle of now flood-soaked rural Vermont, Chamberlin’s interpretation of Kanye’s epic track follows many of the same patterns as their earlier cover (http://www.covermesongs.com/2011/08/chamberlin-kicks-off-covers-project-with-passion-pit-wants-help-choosing-songs-for-ep.html) of “Little Secrets” by Passion Pit. Once again the vocals take the spotlight, especially in the a cappella intro. Their vocalist has a strong, rich voice and a solid falsetto, allowing him to replicate Justin Vernon’s “Woods” sample without the original Auto-Tune. They’ve also turned the rap verse into a mid-tempo singable plea. While Kanye’s version centers around dynamics and contrast, Chamberlin smooths it out and gives it a more level, even feel. Listen to and download the track below.

The Cabin Covers EP is available here:

http://chamberlin.bandcamp.com/

For ~$20 you get the 5-song CD, plus a download of all the songs in your choice of format (mp3, flac, etc), a 1LB bag of Vermont Coffee Company Dark Roast, and all proceeds go to VT flood relief.

Seems like an easy decision to me!

You can also purchase at Chamberlin's site: http://www.chamberlinband.com/

Chamberlin was at Water Street Music Hall in Rochester again last night, this time as the headliner in the Clubhouse. Mark Daly was sick – he apologized for his voice sounding like a croaking frog at times, and said we were lucky we weren’t New Haven CT the night before when it was much worse. Surprisingly, his falsetto was virtually unscathed. It helped to have listened to their CD so much that I could fill in the sound of his voice.

Sadly there was a very small audience, as has been the case any time I’ve gone to the Clubhouse. That must be discouraging to a band, but you wouldn’t know it by their performances. The audience was completely attentive and as loudly appreciative as size permitted.

This was not the case with the opening band, Bogs Visionary Orchestra, a local Rochester group. After the first few songs, they did a really sweet love song that drew those of us at the front line closer to the stage – including his very lovely adoring wife. People in the back were oblivious and loud. I was glad to have seen BVO, and they were very friendly both before and after the performance.

Chamberlin did possibly the entire CD (again I didn’t keep track), a couple of new songs, and two songs off the Cabin Covers EP: Passion Pit’s “Little Secrets” and Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks.” They jammed in the middle of some songs – not my thing, but the audience liked it. They put on a good show.

PS: I've discovered the secret to not being sleepy on the drive home from a concert:
1) Don't eat dinner
2) Drink a bottle of water on the way there
3) Have a cola while waiting for the opener
4) Eat the ice
Not kidding - it really works!

Can't believe I forgot to post this here earlier ...

Chamberlin's new EP was released on Tuesday (9/4) and is featured on Spinner all this week (thru Sunday night) .. listen here (http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/spinner#/10)

Spot on review at Seven Days ... Chamberlin, Look What I've Become (http://www.7dvt.com/2012chamberlin-look-what-ive-become)

I’ll admit it: I really want to not like Chamberlin. It’s nothing personal. I’m sure they’re really nice guys and all. And far be it from me to begrudge anyone success. But, come on, their story is so annoyingly improbable, it’s hard not view them with at least a little bit of (admittedly jealous) skepticism. To recap…

Four virtually unknown dudes hole up in a rural Vermont cabin to record a demo. Scott Tournet, guitarist for Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, somehow gets hold of said demo and goes appropriately apeshit. .......

After you get done reading and listening, go to http://www.chamberlinband.com/ and buy the EP please :)

Email from Chamberlin today. You could probably sign up for their emails here: http://www.facebook.com/chamberlinband Luckily I signed up pre-Facebook.

We're writing this to you from one of the most beautiful places on earth. No, we're not talking about Mitt Romney's ocean front home in La Jolla…or his lake front home in Wolfeboro…or his mountain home in Park City…or his home in Belmont for that matter. We're of course talking about that magical, mystical area somewhere between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Let's call it "Pittscleve", that sounds pretty.

Anyway, we have a free song for you and according to Mitt, 47% of you like free hand outs, so please enjoy. It's a remix of our song "Thief" by Rubblebucket (http://rcrdlbl.com/2012/09/17/premiere_chamberlin_thief_rubblebucket_remix_feat_ kalmia_original_stream) , one of our favorite artists!!!! This is the first time we've had someone remix one of our songs, and we couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out! They even wrote a new verse which their front-lady Kalmia sings!

Songs feel like children sometimes…we conceive them and give birth to them so that they can develop a life of their own and in turn the world can enjoy them (or let's be real, potentially hate them, some children are horrible). Remixes are in some ways the musical juxtaposition of nature vs. nurture. On this remix we still gave birth to "Thief" but in this case we got to watch what happened when other parents raised it. What we've learned is there is clearly more than one way to raise a child. RCRD LBL described theirs as "chiffon swirl, tinkling bell crescendo and a surprisingly heartfelt verse by frontwoman Kalmia" and our version as "an angelic march reminiscent of a brawnier Fleet Foxes". Pretty neat.

If you want to remix "Thief" yourself, you can download the stems here! (http://rcrdlbl.com/2012/09/17/premiere_chamberlin_thief_rubblebucket_remix_feat_ kalmia_original_stream) Send us your version of the song and we'll help share it too.

In other news, Part 2 of our "Above the Valleys" film (http://www.ourstage.com/blog/2012/9/17/chamberlin-maryland-above-the-valleys-part-ii) is out and this time its for the song "Maryland." *

Tour dates are below - this week we've got Pittsburgh, Philly, Boston, NYC and DC...hope to see you soon.

Love,
Chamberlin

Love indeed. Sadly, however, Waterstreet NY is not on the tour list this time.

* Part 1 of Above the Valleys here (http://www.cmj.com/news/video-premiere-part-1-of-chamberlins-above-the-valleys/)
