Hope kc doesn’t mind my referring to this over here. It has fallen off the radar at tis.

I got home really late last night and found the book in my mailbox. The cover pictures don’t seem so much like mug shots when you are holding it in your hands; but, ironically, the photographer states at the end of the book: “The idea was to get mug shot quality portraits and then, during the interview, more relaxed snapshots.”

I stayed up a bit later, reading Grace’s interview (which revealed a few things I’ve never read elsewhere) and some others. It’s a nice book – recommend you buy it.

wags . . you must have clicked on the link to the interview Nanci posted in order to have made the comment you did . . so you can't be that lazy . . so maybe you're kidding . .

but in case you're not, as was stated in another thread, copying and posting entire pieces is both a breach of netiquette and can be considered copyright infringement. Posting a short excerpt and a link to the original is the accepted way of sharing.

my bad toofarnorth I had no idea:

"a breach of netiquette and can be considered copyright infringement"

Thank you for the education, it is true you learn something new everyday. :-)

Wags, here's a little tease for you:

"I'm content to go around with slightly blurry vision. I don't have contacts in or anything. I just can't see very well. But I paint . . . those are my paintings over there. And I love movies. I could watch anything . . . maybe not the Grade B sci-fi. I love writing letters. I love writing and the idea of correspondence, that kind of Jane Austen approach to life. Keeping in touch through epistolary relationships. I think that's kind of a special thing. I have several people that I maintain contact with strictly through letters."

Adorable!

Buy the book here. (http://www.amazon.com/Young-Vermonters-Not-Endangered-Species/dp/0983068720)

Hi Karen, wags and toofarnorth
This is the photographer of Young Vermonters. Thanks for your comments, it's good to read that somebody thinks about the photos and book itself. What do you like or dislike about the mug shot quality portraits? What comes on your minds? Tell me more if you want to.
Cheers and hope you enjoy reading the book ;-)

Martina:

I love the mug shot idea for the pictures. It gives you a visual taste of the person and then makes you dive into the written word. It reminds me of this project I remember reading in school at Goddard called "salt of the earth" same concept but the people were farmers and people who lived off the land very moving and touching. Thank you for taking a look at the rare breed of folk, the young vermonter.

I bought the book and read the interview with Grace. I also learned a number of things I hadn't read anywhere else. And some of the other interviews are pretty good too!
