Hello everyone.
I must share my feelings on this. I did not discover GNP until the new Nocturnals evolved. I did become a fan of the band last summer based on previous recordings though. I made a point of catching a live show, and got my wish when GPN came through L.A. ending her opening act tour with Brett Dennon on December 12, 2009.
Great show, as I expected, and needed to get a full dose, so I flew up to San Francisco the following afternoon with 3 tickets in hand to attend this headliner show with my son and his lady. Wow!!! Let me say, I have attended more than a few live shows since my first concert at the age of 15 years to see "Iron Butterfly" and Lydia Pence with her band "Cold Blood" at Howard Stein's Capitol Theater in Port Cester, NY on February 20th of 1970. This began my appreciation of everything from rock, folk, blues, blues-rock, country-rock, bluegrass, and even just a little jazz.
I will not bore you with the list of my favorites. Some are legendary.
When I left the Fillmore that night, I honestly thought I had just experience one of those shows that would remain at the top of my personal bests. The years tend to blend things, but I do remember the feeling. I could not stop dancing nearly the entire show, and Grace Potter took my mind and body into a space that possesses the soul in ecstacy. I knew my son's lady (a musician herself) had enjoyed the show, and when I asked her just how much on a scale of 1-10, her immediate response was "A TWELVE!!!".
Now I have just run the Fillmore iTunes Video for the first time, I see why I enjoyed that show so much. It really does seem to be one of those that may have captured a band when they have reached that point where talent, enthusiasm, and experience come together to bring out the very best that individuals can achieve in whatever skill or craft they are in pursuit of. In the video Grace comments on the energy of the crowd. I cannot put myself in her shoes, but I did receive a tremendous contagious energy from Grace Potter & The Nocturnals that evening.
Thank You GPN
I can only hope that you will endure and evolve for our pleasure and yours.
L.A. Eric
