Will Grace's original album be available again any time soon at the distributor who was previously carrying the title (Merch Direct) or can you direct me to someone who might have stock on the CD???

Anyone know where I might pick up a new copy of Grace's first CD, "Original Soul"?? A record shop in Vermont somewhere (those of you from that area might know that)??? Thanks for any leads you can give me!! Dave

You can find copies of original soul on ebay if you're desparate.. but its better if you can buy from a record store so the band gets their well deserved royalties.

Actually, I take that back. There aren't any on ebay right now, but I've seen them come up from time to time, as well as some older posters. I have long looked for their first live CD which I have not ever seen a copy of, and I've been looking for almost 4 years.

I remember when it was still on cdbaby. I wonder why NBTW is still there and OS is not.
i got an Original Soul cd on this website during the summer of 2010 at some point. just a guess but i think they make more and sell them out immediately. im really not sure i guess there is a slight chance its just not available for now.
the live cd Jackie refers to is looong gone, ive def never seen one. there is a live show where Grace is playing "Come On Into My Kitchen" and talks about the live cd and Gregg Allman's version they covered on the cd. funny, i bet if i looked hard enuff, one of my friends has that cd. probably more than one friend. someone just the other day was telling me theyve seen GPN probably 20 times, but not once since 06 or 07. he had some great stories no doubt. of course i told him he has to come out to a current GPN show, and see the evolution baby. to which he agreed.
Original Soul is a true "Indie" album. Mine says "2004 Grace Potter Music." that is the "record label." i think i got essentially one of the last of these, and it has probably not been back in stock since they sold the last one...either the night of the VH1 Diva show or shortly before that.
NBTW was the first album done under Ragged Company/Hollywood Records. there were many more cds fabricated in the first place for that one, and the current label can keep making more if they run out.
Original Soul might have to be "re-released" by RC/Hollywood at some point, im not sure what that involves...and if so maybe a bonus CD or bonus trax would be the old school live CD?

I got my copy from the merch site back in December. I know it had said "sold out" for a long time before I got lucky and found it restocked one day. Keep checking?

i think you are talking about the Live Oh Five cd. the reason it was pulled was because it had an allman bros cover on it, come and go blues. i think that is the reason anyway.

I went digging around a bit - can't resist a challenge. No 'OS' but found a Vermont artists compilation, which has "Mr. Columbus" on it. Searched "Grace Potter" at the site to find it:
CD749 Various, "Thrufters & Throughstones: The Music of Vermont's First 400 Years" (http://www.vmls.org/store/product_detail.php?s=CD749)
Has Anais Mitchell and Phish and 29 others (2 CDs).

Thank you Karen-I appreciate the effort. And I know what you mean about a challenge-this is a tuffy, but I'm not giving up. Hopefully one will show up on one of the commercial websites. I'll check out the compilation you found. Best, Dave

Nate the great settin us straight! always in the know, i like it.
ill keep an eye out for the 2 uber rare early cds amongst my travels.
ill also add there is a Japanese version of This Is Somewhere that has the studio version of Over Again and Belladona. that should still be available, i ordered one from Japan last summer, and i dont think any websites are crashing over fans going all in for that one. (of course ordering anything from Japan right now is questionable) also that electric version of Aint No Time and the Mr Columbus are sik. i like to listen to This Is Somewhere when im skiing mind-bending terrain like Brekenridge or A-Basin (aka "Gracin at the Basin" when most others are simply "spacin at the Basin") sounds crazy...but hey, someone has got to do it.

I believe Nate can confirm the following:
"Original Soul" was released on Grace Potter Music
I believe that NBTW was originally released solely under the aegis of Ragged Company. When they signed their deal with Hollywood, well after the release of NBTW, Hollywood got the rights to re-issue NBTW and Grace Potter Music retained the rights to Original Soul... and all Grace has to do is print up some more copies!! :-)
I can't, at the moment, find my copy of "Live in '05" but if I'm not mistaken the liner noted "All songs by GPN", and it had to be changed because the had a cover of Greg Allman's "Come and Go Blues on there!
And BONUS, I found a "sealed" copy of "LIVE: Summer 2004 Live from The Windham, Joe's Pub and The Iron Horse." This was on Grace Potter Music as well
And while I was at it, found a sealed promo copy of NBTW and a sealed copy of "original soul"...and more.... SCORE!!
And I also have a sealed collectors edition of NBTW, packaging handmade by the band....cost $20 instead of $15. I think that one is in the safe with another goodie :D. I hope so...been having trouble opening it. At least they are "safe" ......
{and i just spent so much time looking for these that a bunch of other posts popped up. Sorry for any repetition}

You might be able to snag the last one at Amazon.jp
http://www.amazon.co.jp/Original-Soul-Grace-Potter/dp/B000V9KDPM/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1300917285&sr=8-12
2400 yen is about 30 bucks.
I've made a couple purchase from amazon.jp (mostly for Japanese only releases of American artists (weird huh)). If I remember correctly, the ship isn't too much.

How do you buy from a Japanese site?
I've made enough purchases from amazon to recognize which buttons are which. There's usually a button on the Japanese site that says see this page in English and it translates about half the page.
http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/offer-listing/B000V9KDPM/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&qid=1300917285&sr=8-12&condition=new
The yellow bar is "add to cart". When you click that you'll see "proceed to checkout" on the right.
I'm glad I got a copy before it went out of print. Reminds of Feist's first cd "Monarch". I'm lucky enough to have that one and it is nowhere to be found.
download the google chrome browser and it will translate foreign language sites for you

I can't comment on any of this, but the gist of the situation is Original Soul is gone for now. It'll probably make a return, no idea when though, and don't hold your breath for too long.

I must give up tho it goes against my very nature. Cannot download Google Chrome - we are not the masters of our own computers here (work - only place I have computer). And - I entered my email and password so many times, who knows what happened. I may have exceeded my credit card balance.
Dave - I tried.
more copies of Original Soul from Japan...i think...
this is where i got my TIS for $22.84 after all charges, which is 2,100 yen. loox like they have OS too. please note the price fluxuates with the exchange rate so your final price will be a little higher or a little lower than your "check out" price. u will not know exactly what u paid until later. but its all cool in the gang its just cause thats how they roll. it took a few weeks to get over here too and please be very patient right now, of course.
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search3.html?q=grace+potter&media=&r=any&step=20&order=score
also please note some of the TIS cds for sale in Japan are actually the American version with 11 songs, so just make sure it has 13 songs
also there is a barnes and noble version of TIS with one extra awesome bonus track "Till the Morning Comes" ready...GO! http://music.barnesandnoble.com/This-Is-Somewhere/Grace-Potter-the-Nocturnals/e/050087104511
also there is an i-tunes version of TIS that has the first Paris as a bonus track, (presumably downloadable in unlimited quantities...4 now...)
"This is Somewhere...I mean Everywhere"

Dave, roll with cdjapan, I'm hanging on to my copy!
and while you're at it, get TIS with Belladonna and Over Again!
it certainly appears to me that if u have 2,381 yen u can get all in it to win it for Original Soul right here:
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=LBCY-315
and while there i highly recommend This is Somewhere for an additional clean 2,000 yen.
OS also has 13 songs so both cds should have 13 songs each. grace ur face. especially that Over Again wow.

Since it looks like OS is currently out of print-not sure any of these retailers who currently don't have it in stock can get it either. I will keep looking, but in the meantime I will place an order with CD Japan to see if they can actaully come up with it. Thanks again, Dave

well ding 2 the dang between cortez the thrilla, nate the great, and van the fan, we have certainly got some knowledge and history up in this hizzle (and some valuables)!
i am not much of collector myself, but tempted to "make an offer" on the aint no time single with the radio edit version. i have def never heard that before, and dying to know which epic 7 seconds were so boldly removed for such purposes. although one of the few things i can not get away with at work is going on ebay. either way i wouldnt pay even close to the buy it now price...i mean, maybe if it were autographed by the thrilla himself...
and T 2 the H1 i am pretty confident i can get that safe open 4 ya ;)

Careful with these sites, a lot of them don't keep stock and will sell to you and then backorder it while they try to find a copy. If it's not a major retailer I recommend contacting them first to make sure they have it in stock.

ah, good catch. i forgot there were 2 live cds they put out, the allmans tune was on the live oh five. the Summer 2004 one had some tunes i recorded, i bet live oh five was a professional job.
i will look for copies of original soul, i used to buy a few at every gig to make sure the kids had money for food...i did find an old pre OS press release in which the band is called "the band of soul". i never knew that until today.
