website says doors 5:30 and tickets say show 6 PM so I'd go with 6 PM for GPN

Well, my smartass response was not so smart...opener Earl Greyhound was on at 6 with a half hour set.

GPN strolled out without announcement about 6:45 for a 45 minute set. I had a seat in the front side section, but sat in the center section without a problem, and when the band came out I moved to 6th row center in this 5,000 seat venue.

I have always had very mixed feelings about this place. Yes, it's right on Boston Harbor. Its also on asphalt. The seats are getting a bit tired, rusty actually, from the harbor location. And in the past, plane noises from Logan Airport take-offs have been noticeable. But tonight was my best experience there. Wonder why...Favorite artist, nice breeze to break the 90 degrees, and sound was very good, after bringing Grace's voice up after the first two lines of opener Bus,-nice job Mark.

The Mule fans, by and large, are late arriving, so the band has a semi-sparse venue, but it's vocal and appreciative.
Watchin You was a shorter version then normal, ended with a cymbal tosssed side stage by Matt. I think for this crowd, tonight, the highlight might have been the 4 way drum solo in closer NBTW, but Scott did get a lot of love as well.

But the real highlight came later. Saw the Chip and Marlee Burr
crowd with fourgalpack of Lucy, Emma, Elly and Olivia. And since they were not staying, I eased into their 12th row seats for Gov't Mule. Early highlights were "Mother Earth", Guardian Angel" and "Soul Shine". Had a lengthy chat with Mulester Marvin after GPN set. He said there was a lot of chatter/complaints on the Mule fan sites after last nights Central park show that Warren hadn't brought out Grace to join him.

And tonight, before "Soul SHine", I see a tech tape lyrics to the center monitors. This can mean only one thing. I made a good decision to stay for GM. Because I got to hear Warren bring out Grace to join on vocals for a smokin' version of Neil Young's "Southern Man" , that drove the crowd WILD, to end the first set.

After this, Marvin said that will get her a lot of good pub, and word will filter on the fan sites to get there earlier to take in GPN. Like I said.......All Good.

Special occasion tomorrow night in Northampton (Arch. Note - my 1st show and Van's 50th!)

Let me 2nd TedHeadOne's review of Grace's performance with Govt. Mule -- she brought the house down!

I've never seen Govt Mule before, and I thought their set was just okay. Warren Haynes is an amazing guitarist and a decent singer, but they lack a front-person. When Grace came out, it was like -- "Holy crap, imagine this band with a front-person like her!"

Then again, what band wouldn't be amazing with Grace up front?

Said hello to the band when they were signing at the merch table. They told me that Grace was coming out with Govt Mule, so I'm glad I knew to stick around. This is my third GPTN show -- would love to meet some of you regulars at the next show in the area (can't make it to Northampton tonight)

Yes--I agree totally--great air from the harbor--lost a beer in the breeze! I felt that Grace stole the show with Sourthen man--mule finally kicked it in towrds the end

Turned loose from the shackles of the current, constrained, six song set list opening for Gov't Mule, GPN turned out, turned on, and turned up, for a memorable two hour powerhouse of a set last night in the old barn, the Pearl St ballroom.

Like a balloon on a long string- cut- the sky was the limit in a night that featured a new song, new wrinkles, new twists, and new fans. Pearl St is the step up, capacity wise, in NoHo from The Iron Horse. I love that place, but the band is a bigger sound for a bigger room, and bigger crowds- tonight about 350 fans paid $12.50, getting big bang for the bucks.

But first, a word about Scott. Speechless. There. That's the word. I am running out of superlatives. The new Tele he introduced last night is one lucky guitar. This guitar will go around the world, thrilling celebreties, royalty, and you and me. Imagine the poor Telecaster that still hangs on the wall of the store today. A void on the wall next to it, where Scott's new buddy used to hang. Lonely. It might go home with some hacker that rarely picks it up.

Before the show, word filtered out around the merch table that last night, at The Higher Ground, Martin Sexton covered Ah Mary. Amazing, Grace!!

I took my spot edge of the stage near the B-3 and settled in. Opener Amity Front gave a nice set, wide ranging, and as James from Colrain said. "Got The Band's vibe" You will know James if you see him, he bears a striking resemblance to a young Jerry Garcia. I bet he gets tired of that, but a factsafact. James was at the Mule show in Boston the night before, the Champlain show, and several others as well.

Highlights tonight: Grace was in fantastic voice throughout. One of the benefits of working short sets with Mule, is it saves the best for GPN fans!!

Honestly, each song was a gem..

MasterMind: Scott had a nice pickin piece in the intro and the song seamlessy morphed into..

Treat Me Right: funky version. Bryan also picked up a new guitar for the show. He found a Univox like the one he borrowed and used on several songs in the studio. He likes this guitar, and it obviously likes him. Its a beauty, they make beautiful music together, and he drove this version.

Ain't No Time: Grace nailed lyric "Purple mountains majesty's turned all black and blue". We spoke later at The Basement, a tiny club where opener Amity Front went to play . I said to her, "wow, the lyrics PMMTABB were, like" and at the same time we both just reached our hands up to the sky to demonstrate where she took this line. We're on the same wavelength. She said, "yea, I realized that I just wasn't giving that the emotion that it needed" Grace, (like I have said here before), that is the megaton lyric of the album

Stop The Bus: Matt added a new kind of double bass beat in the intro. I am sure there is a better, technical way to describe it. Scott.

Falling or Flying: what can I say, a special song, I felt the love.

Apologies: quieted the crowd, not completely.

Meantime: Guy next to me said, after the song, what a great job Bryan does on this. Amen, brother!

Belladonna: Bryan, again. Matt at the end.

Out on The weekend: A softer, Neil Young cover. Bryan said they had played it before, but it had been a long time. First time for me.

Lose some Time: Duo with scott. This song brought as close to a hush as you are gonna get with 350 alcohol fueled folk after 11 PM

Over Again: Scott and The Amazing Crescendo of Furiosity. Man!! Grace, with the passion and pleading. Actually, this was the first of 5 songs that scorched the night to a crisp.

You Don't Know: Grace movin/groovin. At the end, just when you thought it was over, Matt with a "one more time" or, if i could paraphrase.."This song ain't over till I say its over!" And he kept it going, with that great grin, for another 20-30 seconds

Paris: I'm goin there..

Watchin You: Grace movin/groovin

NBTW: Grace had her guitar, put down the tambourine, and gave an electric intro (NBTW I). Definite first...The looks on the Nocs faces were great- "Whoa! let's seewhere THIS goes!"
[ok, ok, technically you can't put the look on somebody's face in quotes...]

Encore Big white Gate. Dedicated to woman next to me, Nancy, headed in for serious surgery, not the best prospects, who has just internalized this song. Touching Moment.

Team effort tonight, for sure, Dan had things under control on stage. Mark had things under control out front. My sound was monitors and amps, Aya said it sounded great at the merch table, but Mark said there was a muddy hole on the right from the stacking arrangement. Mark and Dan work their asses off, just like the band, just like Jen, to bring us, the fans, a fantastic evening.

After the show, later, the band walked over to tiny club across from the Iron Horse (Northampton is a great scene), I said hello/goodbye and have no idea if they were coaxed "onstage". Grace said she was on voice rest.

Scene in the crowd: Jens mom Betsy with Bill, Aya, Steph, Dina, SiennaLuke and bride over from Albany, Scott's bro out from Belmont.

And off they go on tour with Mule. Watch for West Coast and Canadian dates to be added.

Home and lights out at 3:15. Early enough to get 4.5 hours sleep before posting and heading off to a reunion softball game at 10 AM.

Thanks for another great review. The Mule with have to wait a few more shows for GP&N. I will be going to the 8x10 club Tuesday night 9-11-07. To say I am pumped would be an under statement after the Pearl Street show. I guess that I can wait for the Mule show with GP&N in Oct. 13 in D.C. 9:30 Club.

My Recent Posts Great review Van and congrats on your fiftieth show (the special occasion - and time well spent)! I have to agree that this was one high energy show. I think the roof was still there at the end because i didn't get wet from the rain. There have been a lot of questions as to the band's direction of late (i admit i had some too). Grace punctuated the performance by saying something about it's good being a rock-n-roll band again.

If there are any doubters, you have to see for yourself.

If there are any more questions about the kind of performance you can expect from them - then this show laid it all to rest.

Great seeing you last night! Congrats on number 50. I had my 10 y.o. nephew up front (near Scott) with me dancing for most of the set. It was GREAT! Over Again...UG...gets me every-single-time. Scottie was mind-blowing. Ok - back to Pats and resting my very tired dancing feet...

great show. sweaty. i really, really loved the intro to nbtw with grace playing her flying V. awesome. mr dondero's bass on meantime is outstanding. i saw them play the iron horse(pearl st's sister venue) in 2004 and to say that they have come a long way would be an understatement.

i left the afterparty show around 2am and they were all playing again, mystery train then another song i don't know - that's all this old man could handle.

I didn't look around to see if there were any tapers there. Did any one see any. i would love to listen to that who knows and over again...... again. This was my first show since new years and it was awesome. i think that was show #9 for me, so i still am a ways off from 50

thanks again, Van - had to miss this show but had a son there and two brothers and their wives and teenaged children...so, we were represented in DNA!!! Good to know how energized the band/audience was.
Any word on how the album is doing? Sales, etc.

Just adding my comments as a newcomer to GPN - even though I live in VT, this was my first show, and I was blown away by the power and the passion! Starting hearing GPTN on the radio (the point) and got me the CD's and really liked what I heard. My sister in CT actually hooked me up with tickets for this show, and my god - the best 12.50 ever spent!

Heading up to Burke on the 29th for the Music Festival next, and can't wait to get wrapped up in the instensity, power and passion that this awesome group brings to the table. If you haven't been to a live show - Run don't walk just GO GO GO GO you will not be disapointed.

I love a Fall day like this. Get in the car, transfer some wealth to the Middle East, head through and to beautiful country. Burke Mt is a straight shot up RT 93 from the Boston area, and I hit the road after 11 AM for the 195 mile trip north.

As I approach Plymouth, NH, I'm on the cell with a friend who asks about foliage. And there is none to speak of here...I have forgotten how beautiful the drive is through Franconia Notch. Cannon Mountain appears on the left, a shear rock face, with eons worth of rockslides spreading out below it. The ski slopes fall right down to the base, as, above, the aerial tram whisks sightseers to the summit. Echo Lake at its feet completes this fantastic scene. I wonder if this is the only place in the US where the Interstate is permanently reduced to one lane each way for over a mile?.

Pushing North, 93 merges with I-91 headed to Canada, a scant 40 miles away. A few exits up, I'm off the highway. Headed along a 2 lane country highway, all of a sudden both sides of the road are lined by parked cars and there is a church lot with a sign that says "Parking" and, no @#%$, a tractor pulling a haywagon that says "Free Shuttle".

I know I'm a few miles away. Is this Woodstock-North??
I decide to drive on and discover that this is Burke Fall Festival and all kinds of arts/crafts are around, along with fleece wrapped attendees.

Shortly, I'm headed up Mt Rd to the base of Burke Mountain Ski Area. Pulling into a broad gravel parking lot, I see folks waiting in line on the stairs up to the lodge, doors not open yet. By the time I get there, the crowd has dispersed and headed in.

I buy a ticket, take a quick poke around, and head to check out the inside of the base lodge. As I go to open the door, I see it is for VIP only and turn away. Jen has seen me from inside and whips outside to give me a hug and deliver some alarming news. After a bit, someone approaches and says hello, so I head off and find a hearty bowl of corn chowdah.

The stage is at the backside of the lodge and faces the mountain. There is a flat area in front of the stage running out about 40 yards to the sound board, and behind that the slope heads gently upwhich is where all the early arrivals sit.

There are 4 lonely souls sitting down front. I make it 5 for opener Brian Van Ark, former lead singer of The Verve Pipe. He delivers a nice acoustic set, including a touching song from the perspective of a dying mans deathbed. He sounds, to me, like a Taylor, perhaps more Livingston than James. He finishes with an a capella version of his former groups hit We were only Freshmen

At this point Im joined by Vtforme (Dave) and his adopted sister who likes Sister Hazel. After a rockin set that featured a number with lengthy bits of Marshall Tuckers Cant You see and ABBs Midnight Rider, I conclude you dont have to be adopted to like Hazel. These Gainesville guys clearly enjoy each other, and express true delight to part of a First Annual. I forget their hit song All for You but it sounds great live. Another song had the lyric if you want to change yourself, change your mind

Dave agrees to save my place by the B-3 while I go find a cheeseburger. The sun is still up, but it is getting cool for my Tshirt and shorts. The sun is sinking over the lodge, and I turn to survey the scene. The flat area has filled up, the slope is nicely filled. Unlike Cannon Mt., where steep slopes plunge to the base, the steeper slope are visible near the summit. The early edge of foliage has come to the Northeast Kingdom, which, at this moment, basks in the golden glow of days last light.

It's a fitting time for this Golden Girl to bring out the Nocturnals. The guys all sport shades, and Scott has a full fur russian cap with flaps, which, over the course of the night, rotates to Bryan, and then Dan. Not to be outdone, of course, Grace appears as the very vision of Rod Stewart, circa 1970. It was the jacket that led me to this conclusion. 3/4 inch vertical stripe pink and grey over a black top with white polka dots, black leather pants, brown boots, and a furskin "scarf" around the neck, hanging loosely, and carrying a baby's bottle. If she could have just shagged her hair, it would have been perfect Rod. And while they did sing "Tonight's The Night", it was Neils, not Rods....

Highlights tonight:

Ah, Mary: Matt kickin' it...and later in the set banging the floor tom and cymbal right off the riser

Mastermind segue to Treat Me right

Ain't No Time: B-3 was glorious, and Grace continues to Pummel the lyric "purple Mountains'..." After the song, Grace drank from the baby bottle, to great effect, and remarked it was hard to get any with the nipple. Someone suggested she remove it, to which she retorted with a smirk and to much laughter, "that would defeat the whole purpose of the nipple"

Over Again: Scott and the crescendo of furiosity opened a lot of eyes (and ears) tonight. Bryan rockin' The whole song is just chock full of passion.

After Over Again, at center mic, Grace again grabbed her baby bottle and drank, as did Matt, Bryan and Scott.
Grace said: "the baby bottles are fitting. we all drink from them sometime (as they all tipped their bottles skyward for a sip) but then we have birthdays, and don't need baby bottles anymore. How fitting, cuz one of has a birthday tonight- Happy Birthday Mark Trepanier!" You should have the seen the smiles beamed from the stage at Mark out on the boards.
And those of us at the Paradise exactly one year ago remember the signs they held up from the stage wishing Mark, on the board in the balcony, Happy Birthday.

Watchin You: Sinister, sensual

Grace led the crowd in jumping jacks at 2 different points during the set.

NBTW: electro intro again, tonight, not a cappella

Big White Gate: dedicated to birthday boys Uncle Steve and Uncle Gordy.

After the set, hey no house lights!! And what a lot of trash. Beer and wine was sold here, but allowed anywhere, not just a beer garden. I run into Uncle Gordy, and we head back to the VIP area to look for his sister, Graces mom Peggy. And while he has an all access pass, he starts to explain to the doorkeeper that he is "Uncle Gordy, I'm looking for Grace's mom and this is.."

"Uncle Steve" I quickly interrupt him. Gotta think quick. She handles his pass, and says "you got this just go in", so I follow. SCORE...I follow him right into the green room and get a chance to say hello to everybody, and then follow along to the meet and greet upstairs in the lodge. Rumour has it there are crab cakes, but they are gone by time I get upstairs.

Scene in the crowd. VtforMe, Aya and her sister, Steph (briefly?), Kellen and Emma (kelma), Sparky, Peggy & crew.

This was an amazing night. I'll tell you why. The band had been in LA Friday night for a 13 minute set at a benefit for City of Hope. It honored label head Bob Cavallo, raised $3 MILL, and had short sets by Rascal Flatts, I forget, and closed by GPN. They did Paris, I forget, and NBTW with 4 way solo.

As soon as it was over, they hopped on a plane and headed to Vermont. They have been flying a lot and it has caused some problems. As the plane descended, Grace had serious and painful sinus issues, enough so that she went to the hospital at 1 AM, released at 4 AM after careful review,a CAT scan and anti-biotics and painkiller. Not one person in the crowd last night could likely even imagine this is true. Amazing night. Grace, you impressed me- again....

Heading out at 10:30, I'm back in bed by 1:35

Thanks for the reveiw. This was a great followup for me to the Water front concert. This concert felt a little more special because for one thing I was hanging with Ted and I had a more intimate feeling with the band. Bryan was really out there last night. Good thing he moved before the drums went flying.
One thing that Ted forgot to mention is we got to meet VTSNOWBIRD just before the band came on. I was hoping to meet Carrjo and any other forum members however no one came up to introduce themselves.
At the end of the show we had a shower of drum sticks, guitar picks and champagne out of Grace's nipple(d bottle).

Pleasure to meet you, Van and Dave! Pleasure to be on the Mountain on a fine autumn evening listening to Grace and the boys! Sorry to have left my spot up front with you before the end of the show, was feeling very guilty about abandoning my sister and her boyfriend up on the hill for the better part of the set. It was WAY warmer down in front let me tell ya!!!

A word about the boyfriend - he thought he was being a good guy and indulging his girl and her big sis by attending a "hippie chick" concert with them. His tastes in music run more to Zepplin/Metallica. Well, by the time I got back up to them and asked him what he thought about the music - he admitted that he was enjoying himself, and "he was surprised by the energy the band had" High praise indeed from this metalhead. Nocturnica has turned anouther one 'round!

Another great set review VAn - love reading them - brings me right back there.

Hope there's a 2nd annual Burke mountain festival with GPTN - I'll be there for sure>

Great short set by the band. Nice little venue. Grace said that they would be back headlining a show early next year. I'll come back for that show.

Thanks, I was going to comment on this, but it is a rather fine point.

Paul Pena's original, self titled album did not leave my turntable for a period of about 60 days back in senior year of college, 72-73. It remains one of my "desert island" choices. He had won a talent contest sponsored by WBCN and made this album as a result, as I recall. He was blind, lived on Cape Cod in Hyannis, and performed at my little college in 1970 or 1971 before about 30 people

He made the followup album "New Train" in 1973 that was shelved for 27 years before being released in 2000. It was delayed in a dispute with legendary promoter/manager Albert Grossman. I was driving down the road, and heard that familiar voice on the song "Gonna Move" and nearly drove off the road. The Persuasions sang backup on this. (After sitting next to him at the 2001 WC Handy awards, Susan Tedeschi covered this song, put it on her next album, and it is a regular in her set list. She and husband Derek Trucks were amazed when I gave them a copy of his first album, they had no idea it existed. Too bad it was burned from such scratchy old vinyl copy). Jerry Garcia played on 2 tracks, and after moving to LA, his producer played it for Steve Miller and the rest is history.

Paul and his wife had immense health issues, and royalties from this record, were, literally life saving. Paul became a noted Tuvan throat singer and was featured in the movie Genghis Blues about this Central Asian singing style, before passing in 2005

Thanks for enlighting me on that one. I will have to find me a copy of "New Train" and give it a good listening to. It reminds me of this night out to see a friends cover band when his band mate said "Black Magic Woman". was a Santana song. I held back from yelling don't you mean Peter Green.

That is fascinating information on Paul Pena. I was a teen in those mid-70s years and certainly filled up on SMB. Never had a clue it was a cover. Never once heard it mentioned on radio.

I betcha GPTN had no clue either.

Under the circumstance that this is the version they know, it is accurate to call it a SMB cover by them.

I'd be willing to take that bet!!!....GP&N knowledge of music never ceases to amaze me; they have a keen sense of musical history. I would bet they are well aware of who wrote the song.

Opening night of a three night run....ah, the luxury of a mega dose of GPN laid out ahead of me...

Three different openers, three different styles, all backed by my favorite Vermonters.

When they have finished this uptempo R&B set I like them. I liked them more in the first song then the final song. It sounds a bit like he is singing right at his limit the whole night. Don't get me wrong, it was a fun set. But if I had the chance to give one piece of advice to this 26 year old "old soul" it would be unusual....find a strong old classic that perhaps his contemporaries might be familiar with, cover it, and nail it. Perhaps Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long"...More often, bands have the covers and need the originals, a much more formidable task....
(For all I know, some of his songs MIGHT be covers, if so, they are pretty deep)

Grace and the Nocs hit the stage at 10:25 for a 1:45 set.
It is apparent from opener "Ain't No Time" that Grace is guarding her pipes, subtle re-phrasing to soften notes at the edges. Turns out, a bit under the weather post Mule tour. Not uncommon, after stretches of strain, livin' on the run, fueled by adrenaline, caffeine, and cat naps, for one of them to have a bit of a system collapse. But her reserve quickly relents to her showmanship.

Not a sell out crowd is treated to a 15 song set with Mark providing great sound. Highlights tonight:

Stop The Bus: strongest Scott vocal harmonies that i have heard

Take It All Away: finds its way back into play.

Paris: Grace leads call/response with crowd, but no Ka-KAW

Sinking Man: my first listen to this new song

Arizona: A Kings of Leon cover..

NBTW: classic four way on the drums

Treat Me right: Matt spreads the love, playing cymbal stands and the drum riser itself in the intro. scott with just the sweetest little run.

Scene in the crowd....Taper Jason ran into a little trouble with one of his mics...a vintage 40 year old piece...One Away Man after the Neil Young show....Bryan's standup is in the house, but not on stage

My first impression of our favorite young rock band is that they're all grown up now. There's a real performance polish to their stage presence, a swagger if you will. Maybe because they've been out on the road so much this year absorbing all of Gov't Mule's tour experience, maybe because they've floored audiences at major festivals all over the country...(bonaroo, SXSW, Newport etc.), maybe just because they're getting better... I can definitely see that Scott has learned a few things from Warren this fall.

So I rolled in at the end of Paris...missed Treat Me Right, (my favorite), and Who Knows (damn it), just in time for Sinking Man, which I liked just fine. Really appreciated the playing on Lose Some Time, her cheating song. Scott's slide work on the lap guitar (? is that a Dobro?) was phenomenal and the moment when they got all quiet and let Grace carry the song by herself was perfect...a great calm before the stormy finish.

This was my tenth show and I brought a friend for his first GPN show after we'd been to see Neil Young at the Orpheum, (more about Neil later). I'm glad they broke out Over Again so my buddie could hear them rock...and rock they did! The song just seemed to build and build, lifting us up with it, churning along with a life of it's own. It seemed to be a stronger version than Saturday for some reason, maybe because there was more room to dance on Thursday. But anyway, he was very impressed by that and NBTW.

Bolted to Bretton Woods early on Friday for two days of POWDER conditions. Sorry to have missed Friday night, but powder is powder.

Night Two, a sold out crowd is treated to opener Sarah Borges high energy, country tinged rock. I have no idea if Grace heard the set, but Sarah threw down the gauntlet. Grace simply picked it up and used it to carve up the Paradise, song by song. Mid set she set the record straight.."In case you forgot, you came tonight to see Grace Potter and The Nocturnals!"

Tonight I retreat to the mezzanine level on the side to watch the Nocs make a gutsy opening call, unknown Sinking Man. It is clear tonight will be different, even thought there is still some vocal restraint early on. The room is packed and responsive.

Highlights tonight:

Apologies: Placed after hot Mastermind, Grace, solo on the Rhodes, quiets the crowd and earns sustained applause

You Gotta Move: This Mississippi Fred McDowell song, best known by a Stones Sticky Finger's version, is a total, delightful surprise, played seated by Grace and Scott (on a steel resonator guitar).

As Grace is seated in her short skirt, she remarks with a laugh to the photogs up front, "You're not shooting my face...well, go ahead, see if you can make any sense of my panties"

Mystery Train: got the semi acoustic version, seated as above

NBTW: Moonboot Lover, and birthday boy Peter Prince joining.

I did play back a few minutes of the set from Sarah Borges & The Broken Singles though and that sounded really good. Since I'll probably be seeing them long before I see GP&TN again, I'm making transferring their set the priority.

Crescendo...that's what this three night stand has been...building each night...successively stronger openers...and closing the run with a wild sing along encore of "Jet Airliner" and lots of smiling fans.

delivered just a phenomenally strong and well received set. Seven piece backup band delivered excellent sax, trumpet, mandolin and lap guitar. They were a failrly late addition to the bill when the third night was added. He told a funny story about sound check. Grace came out as they were practicing a song with the line no expecations in it. She hoped it wasn't the Stones song (it wasn't, and turns out she invited Tim and mandolin player out for No expectaions in her set). He told her they had checked GPN out on youtube, and Grace asked him if it was the ones were her t..s were hanging out. He said no, (but told the crowd they were all gonna go back and spend a little more time on youtube....)

I would guess that until last night there might be only one song that has been used as an encore one night, and then used to open the next nights show. NBTW. I could be wrong. But tonight they opened with "Tune in on You", Friday's closer.
Must absolutely, positively be the first "new to band" song has had that honor.

Standing front and center, I watch as GPN takes the stage at 10:40 to delight a near sellout crowd for the next 1:45, mixing new, old, and favorites in nicely paced set.

Highlights tonight:

Bus: Scott kneels, Grace does too, Bryan join up front on his knees as well, until the point in the song where they stand and jump in the air.

Paris: Matt playing so hard his hat flies off

Next four had Grace and Scott seated and Bryan ON STAND UP BASS, yes!!...

Lose Some Time: Bryan with some tasty licks

No Expectations. With Tim on vocals, and mandolin man.

NBTW: got the four way drum solo again...even as Grace says it won't be a nightly part of the song going forward.

Scene in the crowd....Aiya, Steph, Adrienne, the Potters and crew from the Valley, Jackie from CT., Mark and Cammy(?) from the Northampton, Larry and Wendy (Larry 3 nights, Wendy 2) old tech (current helper) Swanny, Chip Burr, Betsy and Bill, and present but unseen (by me) Scott's parents. And I think Marty DiBergi but wouldn't swear to it..Non sighting of One Away Man- present Thursday, headed to the slopes Friday, but expected last night...didn't break anything, didja One?

Not even a $120 tow bill dampered the night...go to ATM next door, walk four blocks to tow lot...

Band has 5 nights left in the month, two next weekend in Asheville with Warren's Holiday Jam and three in Burlington. Till then..Merry Christmas!
