I do not know what the order will be at Mixfest, but I would NOT want to be the band that follows GPN right now. How could any band possibly take it up a level after them?
Having trouble making heads or tails of the web site for this ... don't seem to be many details. Do they say what time it starts? I'm sort of supposed to work that weekend and am trying to figure out if the music is happening during the day or at night.
Trish, I've only been to one Mix Fest...many years ago in the old Schaeffer Stadium (Patriots)......that deal was an all day fest that started about noon and went till 11pm. I took Keri and her friend. We had seats on the 50 yd line about 20 rows up. To give you an idea of the acts.....Susan Tedeschi played at 12:30 as an opener, if you can believe that! Then the Pretenders, Paul Simon's wife, whats her name?, and it rained most of the day.....The three headliners were.....Sugar Ray, Melissa Ethridge, and Blondie!!.......A good percentage of the crowd was teenie boopers there for Sugar Ray...who was late.....once he was done, bunch of people on the field started to leave so we went down and asked for their tickets (it wasn't free back then) and got into the front row for Melissa (who can rock!) and Blondie!! Keri was dancing on a seat with her Vultures shirt on and Debbie kept pointing to her and laughing.......Not sure this tells you much, but it was fun for me!!
"If your not getting old, your dead!"- Tom Petty Feb 2010
"All you can do is hit'em hard and smile!"- Matt Burr June 2008
"Get F$#ked!!"- Cat Popper Dec 27, 2009
"Hey Wally.......Get F$#ked!!"- Cat Popper Dec 29, 2010
Sounds great, Wally! Thanks for the info! Will have to keep an eye on this one and see what details materialize about the exact schedule.
No indication yet of the schedule. I just tweeted a request for one.
However, the website does indicate the following:
"Led by Grace’s powerful, multi-dimensional vocal delivery, dynamic range of musical talents and magnetic stage presence, the band are (sic) becoming one of the premier Southern rock jam bands to emerge in recent years."
I can label GPN with a few different genres, but "Southern rock jam band" would not be at the top of the list. YMMV.
But, what the hell, Mix104.1 here in Boston is obviously a supporter, so we can't knock 'em too much, right?
JJ - I would love to hear Ms. Potter and the Noc's rock out "Opportunity" from the Rossington Collins Band.

At 2:23 this same song plays in Nighthawks. I think this is one of Stallone's best movies!

No special insight here, but free radio shows at The Hatch Shell, like earth Fest that GPN has played in the past, have been afternoon affairs, running 12-5. ish
The Shows page is listing a 6pm start time (Maybe that's when GPN will be on stage)
Free show on a Saturday - I'm so there! Going to be a great promo for GPN on the radio, will have to listen on the way there!
it's not too common but we see (or hear) this once in a while in the media. Nashville specifically has also been mentioned in the past.
my best guess is at some point shortly after her initial collaboration with Kenny Chesney (or possibly the T-Bone Burnett project?) an incorrect press bio made it thru the cracks which indicated she was from Nashville,Tennessee. seems to happen at the free radio station shows the most.
i have also read where Grace says "Nashville feels like home" or "I feel at home in Nashville" or "one day i'll come back to Nashville and make it my home" further adding to the very low level of confusion (that gets shared with a very large audience most of which know it's wrong).
well anyway, they got the Cat. she's from the south. not Nashville though. i think it's closer to Ashville.
have fun!
The "mystery" artist is no longer a mystery. Sara Bareilles has been added to the MixFest bill. Still no updates on the official MixFest site for timing of the performers.
Hasn't been a mystery over at tis.com
"Tedheadone August 21, 2011 at 8:12 am
With Sarah Bareilles…."
P.S. I have had a major resentment against The Today Show, and Sarah by extension, ever since Today did a remote show Feb 21, 2008 from Sugarbush and had Sarah, not local gal Grace, as the musical guest. Nocs were off tour that week. Sugarbush shoulda demanded Grace get the nod!
That's hilarious!! Southern rock.....The NOCS are so many different things. Why do people have to label music like that. They just ROCK.... It's like the Allman Brothers. They get a little offended being called "southern rock" themselves. So a Vermont band with a southern gal on bass is a "southern rock" band. Too funny.![]()

Heath - Thanks so much for posting. Still not feeling well and drained after an event and board meeting today. Not likely I'm going unless a miracle takes place. It sucks because I'd like to see all these performers and its going to a beautiful day in New England. Enjoy the sunshine! Looking forward to UConn! 2 weeks is plenty of time to get over this cold!!! 3 out of 5 of my sisters (and maybe my daughter who attends UConn) will be there!
At the risk of sounding like "hey, look at me!", just wondering if anybody else will be in the VIP area at MixFest today? A good friend of mine works for WBZ-TV (a CBS station, as is Mix 104.1 FM) and got me on the VIP list, knowing my love for all things Grace. Not gonna post my cell # here, but can check email at JSJoyce(at)gmail(dot)com on my phone during the day.
Set:
Hot Summer Night
Only Love
Goodbye Kiss
Apologies
Low Road
Paris
Medicine (w/an awesome drums and grace threw the tiger into the crowd)
