August is still summer, right ? . . . take a run up to Portland, Maine on August 23rd

State Theatre is an excellent venue and, if haven't been before, Portland is a fun city .. would guess it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive for you .. (which is 2 hrs less than my drive from northern Maine btw - ha)

yeah exactly 2.5 hour ride each way and burlingtons 3.5 was hoping for something closer
You never know - they have surprised us many summers by tacking on Martha's Vineyard/Nantucket at the last minute. Perhaps after Foxboro? A big end to your summer?
whats general admission tix like at state theatre portland seems that is all they have?
There is fixed seating in the back half of the main floor and in the balcony - and removable seats in the front.
The GA set up has been no seats/ standing (dancing) area in the front any time I've gone .. and that was the set up when GPN played there in 2010.
Some serious thought, effort, money (1.5 mil) was put into the venue before re-opening it in 2010.
The sound system is very good and, hate to do the old "there isn't a bad spot in the house" bit .. but there isn't.
Hope that helps?
BTW .. the folks who bought and renovated it are associated with The Bowery Presents (NYC) and Higher Ground (B-VT).

Yea, I know how you Mass guys feel, no on second thought I feel like doing a Sam Kinison at the top of my lungs "You got to be kidding ME!" Between shows out here in the PNW area 1/2711 to 7/18/12 what 18 months or so, Grace and the guys have had more shows than 18 in the Northeast during that period. But than again GPN withdrawal of any duration does make one alittle incoherent. Relax help is on the way near you soon.
ok just a few more questions concerning the show. where is there parking near the theatre and are there any low price hotels near by if i stay over the night instead of driving back after the show?
Bill - Here is some information about parking from the State Theater website
There is no designated parking at the State Theatre. There is ample street parking in the neighborhood around the venue. There is a parking garage across the street on High Street next to the Eastland Park Hotel. Sorry, no helicopter pad.
I'm staying at the Best Western in South Portland for the show![]()
yeah unfortunatly the lowest cost halfway decent hotel , which is the howard johnsons is about $115 a night with tax (summer rates), the reviews i read about motel 6 and other lower cost hotels did not sound to great .
but i do appreciate everyones help on the info they have given me about the show, venue and parking etc.
