What a cool surprise. The Best Buy exclusive version just arrived with the mail, a day early.
Don't know what the regular or deluxe editions are like but this one is a digi-pack trifold. Three slots inside for the CD, the booklet and the DVD. Nice matching graphics to detail the cover of each slot.
I'm at work, so I can't take the time to check it all out but the good news is that it appears to be the entire Lollapalooza performance. At first listen, it sounds great. This is going to be a joy to watch and hear.
For an objective appraisal, I want to see it at home on my TV. That being said, at first glance it doesn't appear that the video is full broadcast quality, It looks like possibly a more compressed feed. Since it seems to be the same feed as the festival web-stream, perhaps the Lollapalooza folks weren't utilizing a broadcast quality capture since it was going to the web and not TV.
Don't get me wrong..... this is MUCH better than the web-stream but there is some noticeable compression and edginess in places. A concert being specifically shot for a DVD release would likely have better resolution than this. I know that sounds like nitpicking - I promise I'm not one of those people who obsesses over the tech specs of every DVD - but I was just a bit surprised by the look of the video.
Before the rocks and arrows start flying, I'm extremely happy to have this show. I don't feel let down and I think it was well worth the price. From the You Tube videos and the few minutes I just watched, this is a flat out amazing show and a fantastic representation of that era of GPN.
Huge thanks to the band and all involved for getting this released.
Not to forget about the CD - will give it a spin soon in the background while working and expect it to be fantastic. Very interested in hearing everything after enjoying the early performances that have popped up on You Tube.
Just so everyone knows, this BB edition also contains the extra songs featured on the Deluxe version.
