    Beast Week Fan Wrap Up

How often is it that your favorite band comes out with a new CD??? This was Beast Week!

Monday morning - receive an email from Rolling Stone Magazine. We (those who knew about the RS event) thought we didn't have a chance in hell of getting in, and then many of us ended up getting the confirmation. Then in the mail - early - is my Best Buy Exclusive CD and DVD which goes into the computer immediately.

Monday night - Conan. I have to be honest, was hoping for TLTBTB.

Tuesday morning - Good Morning America. The commercial ended on GPN doing Turntable and that was really hot. Wishing Turntable got featured more.

Wednesday - Thinking of all my GPN buddies up in Burlington getting blown away!

Thursday - Left for NYC around 1 pm -- had the trip all planned out. Had an appointment at 4 with a Galerie, but didn't get there until 5. Who knew that Obama was going to be in NYC Thursday? He must have heard that GPN was in the city! Traffic backed me out an extra hour. This put me a little behind getting to the Best Buy signing at 6. Driving through the city reminds me of why I could never live there. No open space, all commercialism, too many people. I would lose myself in all that... as I type this outside on my back porch overlooking parkland listening to birds sing! I find a parking garage near Best Buy and literally run over there entering the store about 6:15. I can hear GPN and head towards the sound and the crowd. I make my way towards the front from the left side and there are mucho security guards, but as one guard is preventing some guy from getting beyond him, a blonde lady just inside the viewing area turns to leave and I step in her place. I don't even know if he realized the switch. How lucky did I get? I see Eric in the crowd. Took some photos and video. Grace is looking slender and very beautiful given that she must be tired from Beast Week appearances. Then they announce they'll be signing and the guards start lining people up saying you must have an id on your wrist (from when you bought the CD in the store). I had my Best Buy CD with me, but I had ordered it on line. Again, sneaking up the back, furthest away from the security guards, I catch up to Eric and the other Eric, from LI. We each get up to the guard at the stage and he asks me for my id bracelet and I said I took it off because I didn't know I'd need it. He saw the BB Exclusive in my hands and let me go in. I'm told they won't let Eric get the guitar signed and they won't let me snap photos. Everyone is moved along quickly. Does anyone else have the problem of losing whatever it is they wanted to say as soon as they finally have the opportunity to do so? Like I should have said congratulations or something (I think I did say that to new band member Micheal) - I can't even remember what I said, except "Bennieee...." "Scottiee.... Hot Scott". Then I get to Grace and move up my CDs (I brought the Sun Sessions too) with both hands, when Grace grabs both my hands in hers and asks me how I am and if I'm going to the show. I love it that she recognizes me (I've been to over 40 shows) and I told her that I couldn't wait to see the new songs live! Then congrats to Mike and your done - too quick! I see Nate and get/give a big hug - wish I could have talked to Nate longer (he is adorable), but he's got 2 girls talking to him and Eric is headed out, so the other Eric and I follow. We put Eric's guitar in his car, grab a slice of pizza and head over to the venue. There's already a line of about 25 people and an hour and 15 until the doors open. There is a separate entrance for VIPs, but from where we stood, we couldn't see who was coming or going. If any VIPs were there, I wouldn't have known, because when I got in, much to my surprise, there was my spot open (just room enough for 2) to the left of the stage where I like to be in front of Hot Scott. Eric from LI joins me... we get separated from Eric and other friends. We all were just anticipating the show and when they started with TLTBTB it just blew everyone away! I recorded that one, but I've seen better recordings of it, so I didn't post it. I did post Turntable which was extremely hot - one of my favorite songs on the CD - in the middle of it Grace takes off her shoes and lays down on the stage. She's wearing the cutest little baby doll outfit with "wings". I have one shot of her throwing it back - it looks like an angel's wing. She did this during Go Ask Alice. She put the "veil" over her head. It was so in the moment and appropriate. I like Grace's natural moves. She has a rockin dance and its not choreographed like so many artists are now, its just real rock n roll. The last song of the night during the encore was Happy. I know Eric has a version of it posted, but I posted it too because you can see closer how Grace just came right out in the audience, one 20-something year old girl just opened her arms and hugged her the entire time. It was adorable. Also, I was still recording as the band exited the stage... Matty being one of the last to leave, sees me recording in the front, and throws me the drumstick - a great throw from where he was - and I catch it - in my left hand! All caught on tape. Eric from LI can also confirm that at one point during the night, Grace sees me in the front and points. I wave back and then turn to Eric and ask - did she really just point at me? Yes, he confirms. Must be the blonde hair shining under the lights, cuz we all know she can't see that well. Like Van's height - you have to stand out some way. After the show, I high-tail it out of there to get home and in bed by 2 am. People think I'm crazy and sometimes I think I'm crazy, but as you all know if you read this post, we are all crazy.... and its always worth it! I HAD AN AMAZING TIME AND THE NEW MUSIC ROCKS!

Friday - Watching Storytellers and crying over Grace's Star story.

Saturday - Curiously watched a recording of The Chew and thought Grace was great!

Sunday - working out listening to the CD and loving it more and more everyday!

    They must be exhausted!!!!!!

great recap Jackie. i was just a few rows behind you and Eric at Irving and yes i saw Grace and Benny talking to you and throwing drumsticks at u guys. didnt realize the one u left with was from Matt. i just want to clarify one more time though, at Best Buy ther was no issues or problems whatsoever with the getting the guitar autographed. you definately misinterpreted whatever you thought you heard or saw. everyone was on the same page that the event was intended only for signing the new cd, but ultimately it was up to Grace if she wanted to sign something else. you must have heard just part of what the security guard was saying. Grace even announced from the stage that she would sign "anything u got" (she really meant like body parts ) so not sure how u missed that...but once she said that i knew it was a lock. anyway i was quite confident the whole time it would work out. no one gave me a problem at all.

great to see u at the events and also getting the luv from GPN! that city traffic with the pres is enough to destroy anyones soul. a one hour delay from NE conn in the late afternoon with Obama in town is a pretty solid success if u ask me. glad u made it!

Should have come on down to Delaware on Sunday! The Wilmington show was amazing, and the perfect end to "Beast Week"! (Although I did not get an autograph from Grace ! )

I didn't hear anything the security guard said - it was like gossip was being passed down the line about the cameras and what to sign. I did hear Grace announce that from the stage and I thought she was kidding because she even said something about not getting into trouble with BB. In all the excitement and adrenalin, sometimes things go right over my head! You always stay so calm and cool. How do you do that? So glad I got to see you! Missed Jules though! Long time fans in the Northeast were split up between the 2 shows, but we sure represented!

thanks for laying it all out, Jackie -

exhausted from watching the roll out while sitting in one place. Can't imagine the effort of the band hopscotching from state to state for all the appearances.

Also, big shoutout to KC for keeping us all up to date with links coming out of TIS - anything missed first hand seemed instantly accessible by dialing up the site.

Re: Beast Week Fan Wrap Up

Great review Jackie, and thanks for summarizing everything for that day! As I have mentioned here before, i'm pretty new here, I saw the Nocs in March 2011 for the first time so I havent been to as many shows as a lot of you here. I consider myself fortunate to be here in the northeast during Beast Week. Yes, how often does your favorite band put out a new CD, and to be able to take part in the festivities was awesome! There isn't much to say about the Irving Plaza show that hasn't been said. Jackie is correct, Grace did recognize her during the show, which was cool. So between the Best Buy acoustic show, meeting Grace and the band, and getting in to the Irving Plaza show, it was a pretty sick day all around. It was cool hanging with Jackie, eric and eric's friend (name ?), and hopefully we can all do it again a lot more in the fall!!

Here's something that stuck out for me about the show. The version of Medicine that they did might have been the most intense and high energy that I have seen or heard them do. I was at the Boston show last summer at the BofA Pavillion and I remember Medicine being sick at that show, but this was even more so. At Irving Plaza it was the last song before the encore, and from my spot on the rail I could see the set list so I knew there were 3 more songs for the encore. At the end of Medicine, Grace really looked exhausted! I imagine it was a combination of the crazy ridiculous schedule that day (and that entire week) and the fact that she just went off during the show and Medicine. For a couple of seconds she really just looked exhausted. So I thought to myself that there was no way they were coming back for the 3 song encore (which included NBTW)...it was a free show, they could maybe come back and do one song....etc. Sure enough they came back and she killed it for the final 3 songs as planned. I don't know how she had it in her to do it, but she did. Among all the other amazing things about the show, THAT is what is sticking out in my head.

not sure what either of u are talking about but i would not use the vocabulary "normal folks" to describe anyone on this forum. (except maybe Tipiboy...that guy is totally normal?)

for the record ive been so busy ive barely even had time to listen to the new album, let alone try to keep up with all of GPNs last minute record release week antics. i got an email from the GPN newsletter and read it at some point and found out about the best buy gig maybe 4 days before the show. and at that time i thought it was in TIMES square. i almost went to the completely wrong side of town. then i went to this very GPN website the day of the show and saw it was Union square...then i saw the link that said they gave out bracelets 2 days before if you bought the cd there and i might not get in, that was about 3pm the day of the show. so i called best buy at 3pm the day of the show and they said no worries, just come down and buy the cd and ill get a bracelet that day. i asked about the guitar and they said i could bring it in the store but Grace might not sign it. it all worked out but i just did my homework to make it all happen. im just as "normal" as anyone else on this website. sorry i didnt post any info, i honestly didnt have any until i was on my way down there. i was surprised not to see more of the posse there. i did post some info about the irving plaza show on this forum but it got removed, probably cause the band wasnt supposed to promote that show at all, or at least that is my guess. anyone that wanted to come out to the city could have gotten in. and to reply to your other comment tipi- the flying v i got signed is not the Grace model, its not even a standard flying v at all. its the stripped down melody maker, its smaller than the real one and ALOT less $$. in fact i got a pretty smokin deal on that one. the Grace v would be like thousands of dollars if u could even find one. even just a standard v would be at least a grand, prob more. mine is nothing like that. still sounds awesome though (almost as good as it looks )

my 'regular' = didn't go in through the VIP door ... but have to agree with your observations regarding 'normal'
