How often is it that your favorite band comes out with a new CD??? This was Beast Week!
Monday morning - receive an email from Rolling Stone Magazine. We (those who knew about the RS event) thought we didn't have a chance in hell of getting in, and then many of us ended up getting the confirmation. Then in the mail - early - is my Best Buy Exclusive CD and DVD which goes into the computer immediately.
Monday night - Conan. I have to be honest, was hoping for TLTBTB.
Tuesday morning - Good Morning America. The commercial ended on GPN doing Turntable and that was really hot. Wishing Turntable got featured more.
Wednesday - Thinking of all my GPN buddies up in Burlington getting blown away!
Thursday - Left for NYC around 1 pm -- had the trip all planned out. Had an appointment at 4 with a Galerie, but didn't get there until 5. Who knew that Obama was going to be in NYC Thursday? He must have heard that GPN was in the city! Traffic backed me out an extra hour. This put me a little behind getting to the Best Buy signing at 6. Driving through the city reminds me of why I could never live there. No open space, all commercialism, too many people. I would lose myself in all that... as I type this outside on my back porch overlooking parkland listening to birds sing! I find a parking garage near Best Buy and literally run over there entering the store about 6:15. I can hear GPN and head towards the sound and the crowd. I make my way towards the front from the left side and there are mucho security guards, but as one guard is preventing some guy from getting beyond him, a blonde lady just inside the viewing area turns to leave and I step in her place. I don't even know if he realized the switch. How lucky did I get? I see Eric in the crowd. Took some photos and video. Grace is looking slender and very beautiful given that she must be tired from Beast Week appearances. Then they announce they'll be signing and the guards start lining people up saying you must have an id on your wrist (from when you bought the CD in the store). I had my Best Buy CD with me, but I had ordered it on line. Again, sneaking up the back, furthest away from the security guards, I catch up to Eric and the other Eric, from LI. We each get up to the guard at the stage and he asks me for my id bracelet and I said I took it off because I didn't know I'd need it. He saw the BB Exclusive in my hands and let me go in. I'm told they won't let Eric get the guitar signed and they won't let me snap photos. Everyone is moved along quickly. Does anyone else have the problem of losing whatever it is they wanted to say as soon as they finally have the opportunity to do so? Like I should have said congratulations or something (I think I did say that to new band member Micheal) - I can't even remember what I said, except "Bennieee...." "Scottiee.... Hot Scott". Then I get to Grace and move up my CDs (I brought the Sun Sessions too) with both hands, when Grace grabs both my hands in hers and asks me how I am and if I'm going to the show. I love it that she recognizes me (I've been to over 40 shows) and I told her that I couldn't wait to see the new songs live! Then congrats to Mike and your done - too quick! I see Nate and get/give a big hug - wish I could have talked to Nate longer (he is adorable), but he's got 2 girls talking to him and Eric is headed out, so the other Eric and I follow. We put Eric's guitar in his car, grab a slice of pizza and head over to the venue. There's already a line of about 25 people and an hour and 15 until the doors open. There is a separate entrance for VIPs, but from where we stood, we couldn't see who was coming or going. If any VIPs were there, I wouldn't have known, because when I got in, much to my surprise, there was my spot open (just room enough for 2) to the left of the stage where I like to be in front of Hot Scott. Eric from LI joins me... we get separated from Eric and other friends. We all were just anticipating the show and when they started with TLTBTB it just blew everyone away! I recorded that one, but I've seen better recordings of it, so I didn't post it. I did post Turntable which was extremely hot - one of my favorite songs on the CD - in the middle of it Grace takes off her shoes and lays down on the stage. She's wearing the cutest little baby doll outfit with "wings". I have one shot of her throwing it back - it looks like an angel's wing. She did this during Go Ask Alice. She put the "veil" over her head. It was so in the moment and appropriate. I like Grace's natural moves. She has a rockin dance and its not choreographed like so many artists are now, its just real rock n roll. The last song of the night during the encore was Happy. I know Eric has a version of it posted, but I posted it too because you can see closer how Grace just came right out in the audience, one 20-something year old girl just opened her arms and hugged her the entire time. It was adorable. Also, I was still recording as the band exited the stage... Matty being one of the last to leave, sees me recording in the front, and throws me the drumstick - a great throw from where he was - and I catch it - in my left hand! All caught on tape. Eric from LI can also confirm that at one point during the night, Grace sees me in the front and points. I wave back and then turn to Eric and ask - did she really just point at me? Yes, he confirms. Must be the blonde hair shining under the lights, cuz we all know she can't see that well. Like Van's height - you have to stand out some way. After the show, I high-tail it out of there to get home and in bed by 2 am. People think I'm crazy and sometimes I think I'm crazy, but as you all know if you read this post, we are all crazy.... and its always worth it! I HAD AN AMAZING TIME AND THE NEW MUSIC ROCKS!
Friday - Watching Storytellers and crying over Grace's Star story.
Saturday - Curiously watched a recording of The Chew and thought Grace was great!
Sunday - working out listening to the CD and loving it more and more everyday!
They must be exhausted!!!!!!
