I had Schultz write that article for me. Not really, but it saved me from writing a wordier, less constructive argument here in the forums.
When I got my current issue of Rolling Stane, I eagerly turned every page to see, at the very least, a short review of the new album. Alas, not one word about the album, the band, or Grace! WTF is going on with rock's Olympus?

Think it's easy to forget in this day of instant everything that the content in 'old fashioned print' magazines is completed way before the issue starts its bulk rate mail journey to you. It's called snail mail for a reason !
GPN played the Rolling Stone Private Concert Series show on June 14th .. seems likely RS would want to use that as a backdrop for a piece on the album's release week doesn't it ? .. and it would have been pretty tight to get photos and a story into an issue that is out now. So maybe it's a case of "patience grasshopper".![]()
Think I've seen other online blurbs from RS lately too, but I kinda like the description in this one . . seems I've lived long enough for "groovy" to be groovy again
Video at: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/vi...#ixzz1ywdh3DEcGrace Potter and the Nocturnals were the musical guest on the first of a special run of Conan episodes shooting in Chicago this week. In this clip from the show, the band play a particularly groovy rendition of "Never Go Back," the lead single from their new album, The Lion the Beat the Beast.

An interesting article, some good points made by someone who has more current knowledge of the music industry and pop culture trends. His info/opinion on the jam band scene seems to have some validity, big success is playing at the 3000+ - level show in and show out, and arena level is for very few. But you could say that for just about any other genre. How many total arena level acts are there, maybe the total stays about the same but there is alot of turnover, some may make it for awhile and then fall out of the mix, other may stay for along time at that level but is rarefied air up there.
As everyone no matter what their background, experiences, biasis hears the album differently you have to atlest give them the right to feel differently about it than you do. But it's hard to agree when they seem so wrong about a point or song or some other point. I can't see anything wrong with "Parachute Heart," or " Stars." Maybe in a album concept they might not fit so well but just taken on their own as an individual song they're both off the charts for me.
I have a short list of what one would call perfect songs, songs that are so totally good that there is nothing, nothing you could do to them to make them better. An example of one for me is Sade's "Is It a Crime" what could you do to improve it? I'm adding "Parachute Heart" to my list, don't want to say how many times I've listened to it(it's a bunch) but it seems to me to be brilliant on evey level there is to a song. It's not some great message song or profound but just a great song to kick back and enjoy. For the life of me I can't see how anyone wouldn't like this song, guess maybe critics have to come up with something to write and they sometimes go for the easy target.
It's always interesting to read included comments to a review if they are posted with the article, there are a few to this article, 2 of them seem to be from idiots (atleast they write well) ie, one says he/she is leaving GPN after this album, longing for the old days ( if you ever liked GPN how could you not find something good on this album- it's beyond me, can't have a relevant conversation with someone like that, sorry the rest of life's too short.)
One guy did make one good point, said album sales the 2nd week were 8,000 or less (I checked about 8800) and this down trend indicated that GPN has not hit the home run they need to be on their way to arena level bookings but will move up from where they have been. Looking at the total picture he might be right as from what I see they still haven't caught what ever IT is to being huge mass appeal, just makes you wonder what it takes to get their attention and sales. Maybe the demographic trend going against GPN is the answer, someting has to explain acts like Justin Beibar, Selna Gomez, Demi Levato and others and their sucess, I could go on but you get my point.
Not too much I can do about that, guess I should be happy to be able to see a show like the O Music 24 hr whatever, OMG what a fantastic show in Oxford Grace and the guys threw down, anyone who saw that and isn't an instant fan I guess there is no hope for them. I wonder if there we any people who truely never heard of and didn't know anything about Grace and GPN there, that would be alot to take in cold turkey!
