For those of you out on the coast. Brandi and Grace at the same show would be a dream come true for this guy. Catch it if you can. You won't be disappointed.

SGN . . agreed . . and the show you're referring to would be a triple threat for me . . GPN, Brandi and Avett Bros.
October 1 . . Nokia Theatre L.A. Live

"Songs take a message directly to your heart. When you can't speak for yourself, sometimes a song can say something in three minutes that you've been trying to say all your life."

I have been watching Brandi Carlile for some time, and will probably try to get a good ticket if I can at a reasonable price. Trouble is, tickets went on sale 2 months ago, and GPN was just added a few days ago. The Nokia only holds 2200 to my surprise. I will get a better GPN show in Vegas the following night I am sure.
Correction... Club Nokia is 2200, Nokia Theater is 7100....

Looking better...
Tickets prices are dropping... I can get a PIT Row 5 ticket for $66 today. That is well below original on sale price.
I just sold 3 front row tix to Brandi at Infinity Hall - ouch - that hurt. Family commitments.
I may be going to Infinity Hall to see Crooked Still with my son and his gf. I haven't been inside yet, but drove by it a couple times. Lots of great music there, I know that.
Wow ... wow ... wow!!! Just saw Brandi Carlile perform for the first time last night at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, CT. Did not know her music and had no expectations. Was absolutely blown away. In fact, I haven't been this impressed with a musician at a first show since ... well, I'm not gonna say it. Wow!
Brandi was opening for Ray LaMontagne (who was brilliant in his own very low key way) and she was definitely the star of the night. I don't know the songs, so all I can tell you is a description of what she and the band did. They opened with the entire band doing an a cappella number. They did a few rocking songs and one mellow song on the piano, but where she really won over the audience is with a couple of gutsy moves which included one song with the band completely unplugged and off mic and another where she got the entire audience singing in 3-part harmony (and I mean everyone). She totally owned the entire theater by mid-way through her set and by the next to last song the audience was up and giving her a standing ovation which was repeated on the final song. I have never seen an opening act receive a full house standing ovation like that in a venue that size (cap. 2,500). Brandi announced that she was going out to the lobby for a meet and greet between sets and half the theater vacated their seats. I waited a few minutes and walked out there only to see a line so long I new I'd never get through it in time for the next set. When Brandi entered the lobby I couldn't see her because of the crowd, but I could tell when she arrived by how much they were cheering. Really special experience for all of us who were seeing her for the first time and I'm sure also for her since she had announced at the beginning of her set that she was nervous. You never would have known it ... very confident on stage and totally in control, and of course the vocal talent to back it up. Still saying it ... wow!
Secret Sisters were also a very talented and charming pair of young ladies from Alabama. Ray LaMontagne may not say much, but he doesn't need to with that powerful and soulful voice of his belting out so many great songs. This was my first time seeing him and was so glad I made to the choice to go since it was a tough call between this show and Dawes at the Iron Horse (my favorite small music club in Northampton, MA) the same night. Good call -- I'm sure Dawes was great, but this show ranks up there as one of my favorites in recent memory. I'd been baffled by the choice of Waterbury, CT for the first night of the tour until I saw the Palace Theater, which is quite possibly the most beautiful and best sounding venue I've ever been in. Hopefully some others of you will be catching this one as they continue their tour.

Great review Trish! Thank you!![]()
I, too, am a fan of Brandi's. A friend in Oregon sent a couple of her albums and I was really impressed. I got back with him and introduced him to Grace and the Nocs. Now he is a big fan of them as well. He called me yesterday to ask about the show. I ran up his phone bill more than a bit.

She played at the Hangout Festival before GPN's set, only caught the last song HOWEVER I will be seeing her open for Ray LaMontagne on Tuesday at Central Park SummerStage.
Brandi played The Newport Folk Festival last summer. I was hanging with Liz Longley and her family. She mentioned she was a huge Brandi fan. I said grab your camera and come with me...we were able to slide right in down front for the last two songs.

And if you haven't heard of Liz Longley....you will. Here is a clip of mine of Liz singing "When You've Got Trouble" This is the song that won the Grand Prize, 2010 International Acoustic Music, out of 9,000 entries. She was opening for Amos Lee at Lowell's Boardinghouse Park where she sold an insane 94 CD's at the merch table as the opener. They loved her so much they have asked her to open for Richard Thompson on Friday, Sept 2nd!
I have just recently discovered this great talent, and I enjoy reading all the posts here. June is going to be a good month with releases from both GPN and Brandi. I really like the approach to the recording process that is shown in this video: http://www.brandicarlile.com/videos/bear-creek-epk/1393
