    Record Store Day 4/16/11

Just saw a FB post about a Record Store Day release for Ryan Adams and realized this event is coming up soon. Don't see anything on the web site yet about musician appearances at any store locations. Anyone know when/where that stuff gets announced?

Bull Moose has a listing of what is available from the artists at participating stores . . it's just below the list of appearances at their 10 stores.

THE TITLES BELOW ARE BEING RELEASED EXCLUSIVELY ON RECORD STORE DAY (Sat., April 16th)

Can do a search by state to find performances here : http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home

For those new people who may not know . . GPN (minus Cat) played an acoustic mini-set at Bull Moose's Scarborough store last year.

And a little factoid : Chris Brown of Bull Moose was the one who came up with the idea of Record Store Day in 2007.

He can still be found in the Scarborough store and his idea has gone international with over 1,400 independent record stores participating last year.

Thanks, TFN! Last year I thought I also remembered seeing a single combined list of the all of the artists playing in each store. The state lookup returns a listing of all the participating stores, but then you have to click on the store link where there may or may not be much information. Maybe I'm thinking of a list that just had all the Newbury Comics locations. Hoping they're still working on the details and that even more info will be released later.

    LOVE record store day!

I was inline at my local record store at 7:45 am.

Didn't get everything I was looking for. But still had fun none the less.

Mascis, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sleigh Bells, Furthur, Adele, U2, Lenny Kravitz, Peter Gabriel, Dispatch, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, The Flaming Lips, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

    Re: Record Store Day 4/16/11

well i wound up with 2 Syd Barret records (limited to 1,000? i doubt it) and zero Ryan Adams and the Cardinals records (limited to 2,500? maybe more like 25). i got one syd record at a local shop and the other online, i was just trying to get one...

not that any sector of the music industry supports the concept of logic or common sense, but i must say-i find this record store day thing quite baffling. its a great idea...now if they could just meet the demand. i dont understand why they intentionally make these things so limited...it just further propells the very file sharing they are trying to get away from. they want people to hear how great the analog vinly records sound, but most people can't get the records.

They also want to get u back in the record store, on a saturday morning, but if its just to be told they don't have anything for you...it's pointless. now even in a best case scenario, if someone can even find that record, they are going to get it online which is better than file sharing (for the artists) but does not help the local record shop at all. again, it just drives the consumer back to the internet-where they will likely find the audio files for free long before the record itself. and either way, the real question becomes...why the hell did i get out of bed and drive downtown in the first place?
